In this video Matthew Piecora (aka EZBOT) demos and shares his thoughts on the new OP-1 Field by Teenage Engineering.

"The evolution of the OP–1 synthesizer. inspired by a decade of technological advancements, ideas and improvements, OP–1 field features a new low aluminium frame, field color palette, glass screen and is packed with 100 new features.

Louder, thinner and 100 times better.

Introducing the all new OP–1 field. injected with more than a decade of ideas, refinements and improvements. just to mention a few: stereo throughout the whole signal chain, bluetooth midi, usb type-c, a new speaker system with a passive driver for detailed, fat and loud sound, a massive 24 hour battery life, multiple tapes and recording formats, new great sounding reverb and the 'dimension' synth engine, an all glass, flush, high resolution display. we also meticulously reworked all graphics, screen by screen. did we mention fm broadcasting?"

Could make a whole album with the new synth and reverb alone

Great vid! Definitely a solid overview of the Field. Just got mine last week and I am definitely loving it! I fell for some of the negative hype at first but once I actually did my own research into the features, I knew I had to have it.

Finally someone making good points and not just going bonkers about how expensive it is. Thanks man!

Best video on the op 1 field so far. Bravo.

It’s almost a home run. If they add a sequencer specifically to quantize a performance which can then be recorded to tape, it would be the perfect machine for me.

Great video, good overview. Mine arrived yesterday. I've already been multisampling piano into the drum synth as you suggested. An upright sound from the Nord grand with bright EQ compression and small room reverb done first in the Nord. Sounds amazing, being able to trigger that in the park on OP-1.

Yes the original OP-1 have that Lofi fatness sound on it's sampling and I can only imagine the sounds on the new OP-1 Field with the different tape emulations. Thank you for the video.

Great review. I agree that it feels like a million bucks. Seeing it in a video doesn’t do it justice.

Thank you for the video, but a few notes: the tape style doesn't effect the sound of your performance unless you record or arm the tape. I think you hit shift+record+stop to leave it latched on. At that point whatever you play will be effected. Swimply changing the tape will not. Also, the delay is not stereo, unfortunately. Thank you again for the video!

What was the point of the mixer in the intro? :D
Anyway, bought one as good as new 2nd hand last week, got a nice 500€ discount. Even got the field pouch with it for free.
Absolutely love it, already wrote 2 demos for my band. Ideal for the musician who has trouble dragging himself off the couch!

Many years ago, I was drooling over the original unit.... for about 6 to 12 month! The steap price held me back from a purchase but in the end I bit the bullet and brough my first brand new synth.... which I still love and cherish!

Now, with the OP-1 Field it's a similar situation. I like everything that I hear and see.... but the price is a bitter pill to swallow (especially if you're just a hobbyist). I feel like it would be much more acceptable if sampling would by now have a time-stretching algorythm similar to the one of the Octatrack or Ableton's warping.

Like this I am torn between Octatrack (which I'm afraid not to master) and OP-1 Field which - while being more versatile - isn't as "deep" as the Octatrack and costs almost twice as much!

I know you cannot compare these two machines and OP-1 is instant fun etc. but is it really worth twice as much as an Octatrack... I honestly don't know?!?

Will be glad to hear other people's opinion(s).

PS: I'm not hating against TE and of couse they are free to set the price level for their gear whereever they feel it's right. I just feels a bit overpriced vs other capable machines and it will be even harder to justify the expense this time.... if it will happen at all.... 🤷‍♂️😪

Is there a specific deck cover (clear plastic) specifically for the "OP1 Field"? Is so, how do I order one?

so do I understand correctly that the delay is about the only thing that is NOT stereo on this thing? no ping pong?
