The sketch sequencer is (in my opinion) the most powerful sequencer on the OP-1 and people are constantly dismissing it. Hold shift, turn the white knob to activate the grid and then it is basically a piano roll. You can play notes on the keyboard to jump to specific notes or drum sounds, use the white knob to jump around the sequence without drawing anything and then draw the notes length with the blue knob. Its awesome for drums. Especially drums that you want offset from the grid (no pun intended). Like endless it will even detune samples while playing the sequence in time. If you're not currently using it, give it a shot.

Also worth noting, if you hit play while the next loop is selected, it will jump right in in time

You mention the SK-1. Wow.. that brings back memories. I dreamed of that keyboard while staring out the window on the school bus back in 1985. I loved the Art of Noise. Then I received it for my birthday that year. It was the coolest thing even before watching Ferris Bueller and his Emulator II in his bedroom. I was the hippest kid on the block. Yes.. fart noises were played to all sorts of tunes. I jammed with that keyboard until college then I lost track of it. My first solo project was named “Timistry” after the band Ministry.

I think my little brother and his friends yanked it and probably ruined it or lost it. Dude… I wish I had that little treasure once again! I might need to hit up Reverb and see..

9:30 you know what's super fun about saving? if you load a preset number, and then make any changes to the preset, if you try to hold another number down to save your edits, it discards your edits and loads the other number you hit, even if you hold it down. you have to load a preset number slot, and save over that same number slot if you want to save.

Nice video! I never had the OG OP-1 so there's still a lot to learn. Once nice thing about the OP-1 field is that you can rename those user presets you save within the unit. This is great because I'm too lazy to upload to a computer, rename, then drop back into the unit.

Super tips Liam. I’m going to open the case and get back on the op-1 tonight. Cheers. Lee

I’m shocked you didn’t know about the skipping sequences (jumping around on the tape). That’s the main way I perform live with the op1!

On the minibrute 2s you have, the portamento is actually the glide knob, if you didn't know! You can turn the minibrute into a nice TB303 bass machine then add some glide to that acid!

This video should have been called “The things that people who don’t read the manual don’t know”

Great video, but I'll be the guy this time. If you set the time and date (shift-help), then the saved snapshot presets save with a timestamp instead of "random numbers". Only slightly more useful, still have to take it to the computer to rename them ✌️

I been struggling with mines live on my page recently getting into sampling it’s challenging to loop and cut and get used to the tape

This might be an off topic question, but I got an OP-Z but its swing setting can only swing the 16th notes (so i cant use it for back jazz or blues players who swing the 8th note). Is the OP-1 capable of swinging 8ths is it just 16ths like the OP-Z?

apart from the game, all of this is in the manual.
you could find a few more things that you may don't know there ;)

Are these still worth the 600-800 dollar price range used in almost 2025?

Yep. The best way to learn something on line is post a wrong thing about the thing you're trying to learn. LOL. I get it all the time!
