This is kinda how I got my first real promotion.

The boss admitted flat out that I wasn't great at the job, and my work ethic was weak at best. But I was very charismatic, the team seemed to listen to me, and I was great with customers (total act, i HATE dealing with customers)

He said that since we needed a shift lead, he was taking a chance on me stepping up to the responsibility of leading a team, based on some hunch.

I worked there for another 7 years, went to school for business management while there, and was a manager by the time I left.

I don't know what convinced my boss to take that chance, but he was right. As a staff member, i was happy to get away with whatever i could, but he saw potential, and when I got the chance, I took it.

One boss putting real faith in me made one hell of a difference.
