"The Heart is a Lonely Hunter" is one of the finest movies ever made. Alan Arkin's acting in the movie was excellent. He should have won the oscar for that role.

Alan Arkin was superb in "The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter" and deservedly was nominated for an Oscar; Chuck McCann, the kid's show star, was also extraordinarily good as Arkin's close friend suffering from an eating disorder and heart condition. It was arguably the best work that either actor ever did.

I adore that film. Everyone in it was wonderful but Alan Arkin was amazing. Haha I loved him too in THE RUSSIANS ARE COMING!!

Misleading title! One assumes he's going to talk about his role as Mr. Singer in THIALH. But he only talks about awards and how dumb they are. Shame on you for being deliberately misleading!

If I got up to accept something like that I'd bring up Orson Welles character Captain Quinlan in Touch Of Evil. Welles completely disappeared in that role. Gone. Yet he wasn't even nominated. I'd dedicate my award to him, and get the hell out.

Alan expressed what everyone who likes film knows or should know: that awards are BS!
