Beetlejuice Beetlejuice - Review

Jenna Ortega, Monica Belucci, and Justin Theroux join original cast members Catherine O'Hara, Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder (and director Tim Burton!) in the sequel to 1988's classic film.

Is this one good? Does it have anything you can use to make your life better? Will you also spill your guts (with laughter?)

My only critique: You should still say WATCH MOVIES. Other than that, no notes. I’m here for all of this.

If this is Alan’s place to shine, I want to hear more from Alan. Like, maybe he can (obliquely) comment on his favorite performance, shot, or effect to give viewers something to look for.

I could see this being more of an "Alan's Channel" type of thing. I'd like to see Alan talk more about the directors, the actors, the crew, etc moreso than the plot. Talk about stuff like whether or not this movie is either aesthetically or thematically similar to the works that the director made in the past, whether or not the actors have good acting chemistry together, even the logistics of making the movie work (i.e. writer's room, table reading, transportation, catering, special effects, costuming, etc).

And I see that, going forward, it could be like "Cinema Therapy Reviews" for movies in theaters in now via the movie's trailers and/or advertising. I'd also like to think that this could be something like a "Cinema Therapy Reviews Television & Movie Advertising", seeing how the movie trailers and/or the movie commercials line-up with the actual execution of the film. Meanwhile, "Cinema Therapy" releases the psychological analysis of the film depending whenever the movie is released for home consumption.

In essence, this would make the "Cinema Therapy Reviews" episode more of like a trailer for "Cinema Therapy" episode in it of itself.

Cons:
1. WAY too many side plots going on, this caused all of them to be surface level
2. Some of the characters definitely didn't need to exist
3. Didn't understand the ending
4. The wedding scene went on a little too long

Pros:
1. Lot of nods to the musical (according to my friend)
2. Danny Elfman
3. Had the original cast
4. Soul train

As for the channel, I was kind of expecting to hear more from Alan and the review of the full film.

I am one of those who want to hear more from Alan on the regular channel, and if you claim that this one is Alan's time to shine, he needs to get the chance. The dynamic on Cinema Therapy gives Jono a lot to say because that's pretty much the point of the channel, so it might be a work in progress to get Alan to talk more on this one. But I hope you guys can get there, because you're both great. If you're going to keep this three-part format, that third part is always going to be in Jono's wheelhouse, so the other parts need to be more Alan-heavy to keep it better balanced.

overall review: big fan, liked, subscribed, gonna watch whatever you produce, and this idea is great

improvement points:
- fix Jono’s sound, too much echo
- let Alan talk (in this vid Jono explained both his and Alan’s opinions)
- make it longer, up to 20-30 mins
- this one felt a bit rushed, lacking chill vibes of the OG channel
- don’t mind spoilers if with warning
- i’d appreciate some info and background about the film in the beginning

thanks and congrats on new channel!

Even though I know it’s a spoiler free show, I would love to hear more about what you liked or didn’t like. Even going as far as saying if you think the casting is on/off or there being frustrating plot holes.

It would be interesting seeing a Cinema Therapy episode on Beetlejuice’s character and what good/bad things he brings out in others.

I really think a section dedicated to spoiler-y stuff would be good. Obviously warn people who care about the movie but for those who do not i think it’d be cool to get your fellas’ perspectives on things

Personally I felt like this movie showcased Tim Burton's slightly weird, twisted but deeply genuine love for people's essence really really well

I'd love to see a full episode of it! Also, maybe expand on the "who this movie is for/who'd enjoy it" section.

Loved it! The ”who is it for” is really the key I think to getting the audiences expectation in line with the film, wich always makes the films better, IMO. In the future I hope you get to go on previews so we can get your insights even faster 😅 I really appreciate all the work the CT-team puts in, you deliver so much good stuff for us <3

Honest review: First of all I really miss the subtitles and I struggle a bit with the airy sound of Jono. (By airy sound I mean the echo and roomy feel to it rather than clean as from CT and Alan in this case.) I struggle with it cause I need subtitles to focus and hear it all and the sound part tickles my sensory issues in a sweater inside out and shoes on wrong feet kinda way.

When it comes to the plot part, I get this is going to take a few episodes for you to find your footing, but I’d like even more insights from Alan on the filmmaking perspective. (Also from Jono)
- Are there any special effects, scenes in particular, scenery in general, performances that stood out?
-Are there anything that stands out when it comes to the writing (can be certain scenes or in general)? Like any scenes that’s well written? Any dialogue or tidbits that’s been used to elevate something?
- Are there any movie tricks used “that stands out” in the movie which compliments it or worsen it of some sorts? Like camera angles, lighting, wardrobe etc.?

I appreciate that you’re keeping these spoiler free, but if you can give more details on stuff like those above, it would be so much fun having seen the movie or not, to see if we noticed those things watching it or if we see the movie differently because we’ve had it pointed out.. If that made any sense..🤔

Other than that I liked it and absolutely love everything CT and what you guys do, so keep on doing the amazing movie magic you bring us already! ☺️💜

Hello, i was expecting Alan to talk more and i still felt jono was taking the lead. I love you jono, but please more of alan! Alan, we love you and want your Brain! (Thoughts😉) love this no spoil review idea, but i see it more as a pre-movie short form. To resolve family discssions when choosing a movie for movie night. I would really like a longer format, with spoilers where alan really explains the details of filmmaking. Alan, you tell us how talented pixar staff is an that what they are doing is revolutionary. But show us! With behind the scenes footage? I want to know how about using music, lighting, what goes into making a movie and how some movies did it right/wrong. How some things were impressive at the time because we did not have xyz technology. Script, character arc, the whole thing. I feel you tell us some of it on the cinema therapy channel but i'm always like "tell me more" and then it goes back to psychology (which i'm also super interested in!). So long way of saying more movie making details pls, show us what goes into it!

This is a lot like how I felt about the D&D movie was. I think it's ok for a movie's primary goal to just be fun. Loke video games, there's definitely room for art and nuanced stories, but it is also a form of entertainment, so it's nice sometimes to just sit back and enjoy the ride. Looking forward to seeing this for sure as a Burton fan.

I'd love to see this format's take on Deadpool and Wolverine. I know it's been out for a bit, but I'd love to get Alan's take on it.

I really like this new venture. As someone who often doesn’t get to see a movie until it’s out on digital, I appreciate you staying away from spoilers.

In Cinema Therapy, Jono is the host, and Alan is the cohost. I think that this channel can be an opportunity for Alan to talk more about film direction, cast, style, tone, color etc. Also, I can tell that you guys had so much to say about the film but had to hold yourself back for the sake of being spoiler free. I think a dedicated spoiler section with a timestamp that people can skip would be a great addition to the program. Either way, I am so excited to see more content from you guys!

I saw the movie last night, you basically said everything my partner and I said. Plot points that aren't super resolved, they could have done more with Belucci's character, but overall it was way too fun to not love
