In today’s video, I want to talk to you about the benefits of Omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids are crucial to your diet even though about 95% of Americans aren’t getting enough Omega-3s in their diet. There are two types of fats you want to keep balanced in your body, Omega-3 and Omega-6. Benefits of Omega-3s are reducing inflammation, reducing risk of heart disease, reducing risk of cancer, helping with athletic performance and recovery, weight loss, improving brain function, and more! Typically, too many people have more Omega-6 fatty acids in their body, causing inflammation. In an anti-inflammatory diet, you should be consuming a lot of Omega-3-rich foods like grass-fed beef and bison, free-range eggs, wild-caught fish, chia and flax seeds, and a quality omega-3 supplement or cod liver oil.

As a Native American, I do Ooligan oil. Just started, hard taste to it lol, but rich in omega 3’s. Just got a compliment the other day saying I look “brighter” 😊🙏🏽🙌🏾

Yup, seafood is only meat source I eat. Great Omega-3 and B12 vutamin.

What happens when we severely limit Omega-6 fats from our diet? Is there a safe daily amount that we should aim for? Is it possible to consume too much omega-3?

Seaweed like wakame has high levels of EPA (omega 3). Also instead of fish oil you can take algae oil. Fish get their omega 3's through eating seaweed and algae. Chia seeds contain omega 3 ALA not EPA and DHA. Some believe that this does not translate. Chia seeds also have lectins in them.

@Dr. Josh Axe, I needed to make sure of the Omega 3 beneficial uses. Besides It's good for dietary as a supplement, could it be used for hair growth and strengthening matters? Can it also prevent split ends from the hair? thank you.

Someone threw Omega-3 pills at me not too long ago actually.. Kinda weird thing to do, but luckily the injuries were only super fish oil.

the fish oil pills I'm taking is making my skin oily and my sebbhoreic dermatitis is having a field day on my face enjoying the oils.

Fish oil and cod liver oil make me breakout in acne, I know it doesn't for everyone but people should be aware this is a possibility

1:00 Actually most heart diseases that are caused by poor blood supply to the heart via coronary arteries are atherosclerotic plaques not inflammation. Inflammation can occur after but its not the root cause.

If anyone's curious about getting lots of O3's, see if your grocer carries Tahini oil. I just picked some up the other day and look forward to trying it out. Do a search for "Tahini nutritional information"

Dr. Axe, what do you make of the 2018 federally funded study that says that fish oil does not have any effects on cancer prevention or heart disease prevention? Highly confused here. I myself will never stop consuming fish oil. I have experienced far too many benefits to stop now.

Hey Dr AxeI take regular flaxseed supplements because I have been told it has the right balance of omega 3 6 and 9. However I keep hearing it is also a source of plant estrogen similar to Soy. So is it bad for you?

Hi doc, you mentioned chia seeds and flax seeds in this video... How about hemp seeds for omega 3's??? I'm vegan so I can't have any fish or fish oil.
