What are your Kidney Numbers? uACR and eGFR Explained | CKD Heat Map | NKF

The kidney numbers, eGFR and uACR, determine the health of our kidneys, as well as our risk for heart disease and the risk for chronic kidney disease (CKD) getting worse. The visual guide for determining these risks is the CKD Heat Map. Understanding the role of the kidney numbers and how to read and interpret the CKD Heat Map are difficult concepts to convey to both patients and the general population. Therefore, the National Kidney Foundation has developed three short and engaging animated videos to help explain these complex topics in the simplest terms possible.

About the National Kidney Foundation:
Fueled by passion and urgency, National Kidney Foundation is a lifeline for all people affected by kidney disease. As pioneers of scientific research and innovation, NKF focuses on the whole patient through the lens of kidney health. Relentless in our work, we enhance lives through action, education and accelerating change.

I have the numbers but I have no idea if they are good or bad. I know more than most people about this stuff but to me most of this information is utterly self-evident. I already knew I need my kidneys, which is basically all this video really says.

Good way of presenting these issues. Clear video. Succinct and instructive.

Thank you. This is helpful. It'd be great to know what other numbers are being evaluated along with these though too and to provide links that eg show eGFR numbers and how they correlate to the different stages of CKD

This video doesn't explain how to read the test results from my blood work. That would have been helpful.

Just occurred to me: the kidney gets only second dips of blood in the kidney artery. First dibs go to the glomeruli. In other words, if the kidney has insufficient blood pressure, the first effect would be kidney damage, while filtration (egfr) may still be sufficient to filter blood.

My eGFR is 54:. I suspect it is from drinking huge amounts of pop and sweet tea at McDonald's

🤔Check your lab results!🤔: I went from a 73 to a 100 eGFR overnight ...because my lab results did not adjust for my height and weight! Example: Creatinine 1.17, height 76" and weight 229 pounds.
See eGFR calculator at National Kidney Foundation.
