I agree with you on all these unnecessary features for all the reasons you mentioned. They make cars too complex and expensive, and of course, it is a dilemma when they stop functioning. Our car manufacturing has evolved into a state in which formerly excellent manufacturers now have poor reliability ratings, high maintenance and repair costs and consumers are hesitant to buy into all that. We need smaller, lighter cars/trucks that still are safe and efficient. Let the car makers concentrate on those aspects and create cars that people can afford.

Yes! Thank you for addressing the stupid electronic shifters. If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it!

Wow!!! Thought it was just me. I’m 72 & strongly agree with each & every word you said. It’s refreshing to hear a young person bring up all of these points. All my life, I’ve loved getting a new car every 3 or 4 years. Now it looks like my 2019 Optima will be my ride for many years to come. Analog gauges, volume knob, shifter where it belongs on the console, spare tire etc etc etc.
Come on auto manufacturers… listen up!!

That Start Stop crap is a government mandate in America “to save fuel and emissions”.
Well, over the lifetime of your vehicle, you’ll NEVER save enough fuel to pay the $2K for a new Starter.

The reason why a lot of automotive manufacturers are using touch screens is that after a period of time, they can charge the consumer a subscription fee to use advanced technology that you have to use or the car will cease to function or many of the advanced technologies consumers have come to rely on. Over the air software updates in many of today's modern vehicles are there to boost manufacturers' revenue. So manufacturers use this new technology to convince the public about how necessary it is. Just look at how we rely on our cell phones today, compared to 20 years ago.

My car came with parking assist. I've had my car nearly a year now, and I've not used it one single time. There is just no need to parallel park where I live. It has run flat tires as well. I hated them at first, but now pay them no attention to at all. My car also has a DCT. It can be jerky at low speeds, but other than that it shifts smoothly and feels sporty. They work best with a sporty car. I also have a dual pane sunroof. It's been fine as well, but thankfully has a sunshade. It would be really hot without one. The best option that came with my car was a heated steering wheel. I thought I would never use it, but over the winter it felt like heaven on ice cold days. I highly recommend one if you live where it gets cold in the winter.

I can prove that automakers do not listen and do not care what people ask for or want it the cars they buy. With one simple example.

2. Electronic shifter
3. Electronic parking brake
4. Auto cruise / forward collision mitigation

One of the BEST and most informative video I have seen for a VERY long time. All car buyers are recommended to save this video, in order to check the features that you should avoid when you are looking for your next car. As a buyer you need to spend some time to do your research. But time that is well spent. I had a big problem finding my next car, without all those crazy features. Cars with naturally aspirated engines are hard to find. My preferred pick was a Mazda CX-5 with a 2, 5 l gasoline (non turbo). It ticks all the boxes, except the irritating Stop/Start system. I will probably deactivate it permanently.

Steer by wire. Door handles that are not the traditional rods and levers that physically open the door, instead this is done by electric signals through wires to activate the mechanism. What could possibly go wrong with that. I do not even like electric windows. More things to go wrong. How hard is it to wind the handle.

Agree 100%, how about a video indicating the vehicles with least amount of over the top technology?

The annoying fuel saving features like auto stop reminds me of the fiasco with gas containers. I spill and waste far more fuel with those awkward spout designs than I ever did with the old cans with a simple spout and breather!

Nice to have a list of cars that don't have the features you just mentioned.

Great awesome video Shari!!
Thank you for calling out the hypocrisy that is taking place with manufactures. I think a lot of it is driven by the corrupt dealership to keep their service department occupied.

Thankyou_

I've always said that you can't beat physical knobs and rotary dials. I long for the days when cars were simpler and not crammed with all this electronic junk.

Would love to see a video about which cars you can still buy without these annoying features. Thank you!
