20 min Morning Yin Yoga - HIPS & HAMSTRINGS

Start your morning with this simple yin yoga class to deeply stretch your lower body.

Welcome back to my channel, this morning I'm going to take you through a 20 minute yin yoga class which focuses primarily on stretching your lower body. This is an intermediate yin yoga class and you'll need a strap with you. If you don't have a strap, you can always use a belt.

We'll get into poses like knee to chest, reclining leg stretch, twisted child's pose and square pose. This will target your inner and outer hips, glutes, hamstrings and lower back. A wonderful sequence to do regularly if you spend a lot of time sitting at a desk. Enjoy!

There are 3 principles of Yin Yoga.
1. Find your edge
2. Be still
3. Hold the pose

Find your edge means respecting your body's limits and not pushing too far and risking injury. Pull back a little bit and as you hold the pose you will be able to go deeper into it without pushing too far or hurting yourself.

Being still means that once you are in the pose it is important to completely relax your muscles so the benefits can get into the connective tissues and joints. Try not to fidget or move or distract yourself, this is a meditative practice. Breathe deeply in and out through the nose.

Holding the pose means that in Yin Yoga a pose can be held for 1-10 minutes depending on the pose performed and on the comfort level of the student. I usually teach poses held for around 4-5 minutes. Learn to surrender and keep a timer close by if needed.

How funny, I saw my comment from two years ago and my word I chose today, CALM, was the same word as then! I did do this practice in the evening after work as it felt right for me. My hips were tight and I’d had a stressful day. The floodgates opened and the tears fell. The sobbing released my emotions and closed a stress cycle. Namaste xo

This class was again AWESOME! I am boring, so always chosing the same word: Healing. That is all I need right now and my sole focus. After getting back to feeling well again, I can expand this intention.

My word was "down" meaning a release. A down day for myself is a day I don't push on goals. I rest in a down day. Yin was enjoyable!

I seem to have a short fuse this morning. I kept thinking, "Ugh I'm not feeling a stretch this is stupid, " and the like. Then something in my brain went, "Well, it's only 20 minutes and you've started it, so you godda finish it, so you may as well just relax." My body relaxed and suddenly--oh!--there's that stretch! My word for the day is "relax" lmao!!!

Good morning Kassandra and fellow yogis. The first word that came to mind for me was “alchemy”. At first I wasn’t sure why, but once I completed the yoga practice and set the intention for my day it dawned on me that, I am a seemingly magical process of transformation and creation; I am pure alchemy! 💛🪄✨

A word of caution for 45+ yo! Do yoga regularly! I could easily do this a year or so ago, but the square pose was almost impossible today. Appreciate your content Kassandra! Thank you
