After decades of operating and committing to the Boeing 757, United Airlines is ready to enter a new era. United has discussed retiring the 757 as part of plans to streamline the airline's operation and focus more significantly on retiring ageing, less fuel-efficient types, with the A321XLR touted as the replacement.

I flew for United for 29 years and was on the 757 for 14 years based at JFK. It was the best airplane I have ever flown, including the 767.

As a 757 mechanic these planes will be surely missed.. when they break, they break hard but are extremely reliable and equipped with the best engine rolls royce ever made. Bitter sweet so we'll see if the xlr can measure up to its glory.

As a Boeing fan, Airbus should be proud of what they did with the 321. Spectacular plane in every way, orders reflect that. Boeing did a fantastic job with the workhorse 757, shame they didn’t grow it.

As a 31 year Delta Air Lines Captain and Line Check Captain in Flight Standards on the Boeing 727/757/767/ER, there were no finer fleet of aircraft to fly. I know why so many are saying, “if it’s not Boeing, I’m not going!” I absolutely loved my job at Delta, but ESPECIALLY, the majestic B-757!

This was inevitable. Its just a shame boeing never even developed something that could even come close to competing with the 321xlr.

Competition is good for the market

I'm happy I got to fly on the 757, a legendary airplane.

I do love the A321s though so..

As a former flight attendant, I spent many hours commuting on the 757 while writing my "graduating thesis" from university... thank you for the memories B757 ❤✈️

The 757 was the near perfect aircraft for the middle of the market. Good for Airbus on this one! The a321xlr is a good but not complete replacement. Too bad that Boeing wouldn’t do it. The a321xlr is indeed a game changer.

I've been a passenger on 757s both domestic and international for several decades. I've never had any bad experiences. They like the 747 are classics but their time has come.

Love the 757! Just saw a United 757-300 landing at KDCA today!

One of the best looking airliners ever - not to mention its functionality…

While growing up and whenever we flew overseas, flew on the 757 a few times. It was the aircraft that made me want to become a pilot, so I became a USMC aviator.

The XLR can do 90% of all United 757 tasks, while being lighter, vastly more efficient, and having a wider cabin. To replace the other 10% of 757 missions including the -300, plus the 767-300 they will doubtless rely on the 787-8 and -9. I feel sure Delta will do the same with the A321, but eventually take more A330-900s AND the A330-800.

i love the 757. i wish boeing would have realized what it had and made a second generation 757; a 757-400

At Continental we flew the 757 all over Europe. During the summers we flew with full loads from Exeter UK to Newark. The runway was 6000' long and we were airborne around 4000'. We also went into Bogota and Quito(old airport) with no issues. The 321XLR is a fine machine but I wonder about its relative performance at short and hot and high airports.

Absolutely the best aircraft I’ve flown.

I used to secure aircraft that parked overnight at my airport. The 757 was my favorite of all the planes. I always spoke to the pilots when I could and they all loved it over others.
