The CEO said “These incidents have caused us to re-focus our attention toward safety.” Meaning that their focus had gotten off of safety.
That’s concerning and inexcusable.

The CEO needs to step down immediately and there needs to be an independent investigation.

When I worked for UNITED and said something, I was fired! Before that, I was given awards for exceptional job performance, as long as I kept my mouth shut.

It almost seems like focusing on making sharholders/CEOS rich at the expense of quality and safety might have been a bad idea. Who could have possibly predicted that?

Stopped flying United a few years ago. They were unreliable and not worth the $.

"We're living right now on luck and miracles", that is not something that should be associated with aircraft maintenance...

These incidents are a direct result of poor maintenance. United has a maintenance issue that they need to fix. None of these incidents are pilot issues. You train for these problems, but when root cause is poor maintenance then the airline needs to step up.

Its called deregulation and understaffing.

I work in aviation, and what troubles me is the over-dependence on computer-based training. We used to have an OJT program, but not anymore. We used to have corporate trainers, now we have local trainers but they’re lazy and don’t do their jobs. The result is untrained employees out on the ramp, a dangerous place to begin with.

Could the bar be any lower in North America?

It's called "outsourcing". The mechanics come from another company, they get no flying or other benefits. We never had these problems years ago.

This is what happens when parts and maintance is farmed out to lowest bidder and control of quality is lost. 4:36

Anyone want to talk about what’s happening with airline maintenance? Who is in charge of the maintenance? Where are they getting their replacement parts from? What kind of training and supervision do maintenance staff have?

I got fired from a factory for being too efficient(brought the shop into the black on the balance sheet), for not participating in gossip and open drug use. These factories can go to hell with their "labor issues."

Bingo, reporter is having a common sense evaluation. Been saying it since the first united airline incident. Wheels don't fall off and airplanes don't drive off the taxi way. Panels don't break off unless they are not secured properly. Check the maintenance logs.

ENGINE FAILURE OVER THE PACIFIC OCEAN?!?!?!?!

It sounds like United need to step up their maintenance quality control. There's no excuse for these incidents.
