I now understand why those after school naps were so intense

I could nap at the drop of a hat in undergrad, and that's the only time I've ever been a "good sleeper"

This is actually really encouraging to hear. When I’m in long study sessions I feel guilty whenever I start to get sleepy. Now I know it’s likely because my brain is going from focus to diffuse mode in order to process what I’ve taken in. It’s all part of the process.

teachers and professor should be aware of this. don't just shove a ton of material at students over a short time and expect them to absorb all of them. it takes time to learn and takes sleep to let it sink in.

Mandatory school naps were a godsend back in the day

I've noticed a similar issue when I write. I get a few 100 words in, and then I can't keep my eyes open. It's incredibly frustrating.

I was an exchange student, and I can wholeheartedly agree! When I stopped relying on my host mother’s English skills and started really really speaking the language exclusively, I really slept… a lot… enough that my host father started talking about whether I was suffering from depression (it was not THAT much, but I did take a nap nearly every day). Being a teen AND learning a new language and new culture, I was tired!

I noticed this yesterday... all I need to do is spend like 75% of the day learning new things and doing hard cognitive tasks to be sleepy.

Professors take note: If your students fall asleep in class then it means they’re learning

Unless you go into hyperfocus, which often results in extremely disturbed sleep, when you brain tries to encapsulate a ton of info in 8 hours. And as a result you wake up every half an hour because your brain plays the same broken record of unsolved problem over and over again in such high intensity that it feels like a nightmare.

And is important to sleep. So many times i found the solution to problems that i have studying just by sleeping and figuring out in the morning. One of my problems is leaving everything to the last day, so i dont have time to sleep and assimilate things and i learn little from it.

True, recently started reading a proper psychology handbook and started to pass out uncontrollably early at night. Maybe I should reduce my learning, it's a bit too much sleep.

So that's why I feel so tired in school.

I've never had anyone address that studying can make you sleepy before. To me it always felt like I was just lazy or trying to avoid learning. Never had any idea there was an actual reason behind it.

I am obsessed with learning and seeing new things, i get very easily bored of repetitiveness and i almost always had a good sleep.

I've been doing this for months now. My Daily routine would be:

Wake up
8-12 Learn
12-1 Sleep
1-5 Learn
5-6 Sleep
7-11 Learn
Sleep

It's not 100% learn all the time, I still struggle with the ambiguity in learning which drains me. Wish there is a way to lessen my sleep and optimize my learning. I also live in an area where everywhere is distraction. (cars, people, etc.)

That is why for a lot of people reading a book before sleeping helps a lot

Something like 2 months ago I was googling "why do I feel sleeping when studying?". I didn't find much, if at all, and ended up thinking I'm just stupid.

The question now is: how do we increase that RAM though? I'm tired of needing to sleep literally 15 minutes into something I'm genuinely trying to put effort in.
So frustrating.
