Also Shadow Distance is THE KILLER - this is a bug which is causing massive frame drops for lots of people - setting this manually to 6000 in the .ini file is the best option and will allow 60fps consistently on most cards. Cheers

If I played this, I'm pretty sure I'd just turn god rays off entirely. They really ruin the colours and make everything harder to see.

Even Ubisoft cringes at the optimization of Fallout 4... Seriously, it's a fucking joke! It's 2015 and it looks like the designers just vomited in photoshop and called it a masterpiece... Yet it somehow struggles to even reach 50 stable FPS on a goddamn Fury X...

No no no guys - come on - TXAA and FXAA introduce HUGE amounts of blur into the texture quality - this is terrible in a game like this.

OK dudes - for increased performance using MODS, using Fallout 4 Mod Nexus and Fallout Mod Manager (its very easy), here are some great suggestions:

Search for at the "Vivid Landscapes" "Vivid Trees" Vivid roads and bridges" etc. - they give you textures that look better but are less V-RAM heavy, likewise "Intense Ghouls" (one I like, the Ghouls look better, not OTT like some other mods) - less V-RAM, improved wood textures and shack floors (better performance I *think*?), "Insignificant object remover" gets rid of tiny things you will never really notice, very good, it can turn off Godrays but I keep them as there is a mod for Godrays that allows you to use Ultra with MUCH less FPS hit, "Improved Textures, the right performance mod" gave me a massive boost, that and another that deals with far off objects called FAR "Far Away Area Reform" - again, gives a nice boost.. If you can't find the mods with these names, just do a general search and read up.

Aside from that shadows settings always seem to slow stuff down for me but with all of the above and the right general settings you should be good to go. Hope that will give some of you some faster gameplay!

None of the settings seem to make a huge visual impact other than anti aliasing and rain occlusion/wetness and distant objects quality.
Lens flares and DOF are pretty standard and i hear the godrays have a huge performance impact but i don't see why. Maybe they weren't properly shown off in this
AF16x and ssao are also pretty standard.... I was hoping for some better AO like hbao or
The shadows are pretty standard too and nothing compared to crysis 3 or gta5 soft

I think the game looks fine but i can also see why people are disappointed with the visuals especially when the game recommends a gtx780/r9 290 paired with a 4.7ghz amd 8 core cpu(wtf!).
I guess optimization went out the window.
I'm also hearing that the console version struggles to maintain 30 fps with the xbox dropping as low as ZERO fps in some
Bethesda really didn't even bother to quality test this game...might have something to do with the fact that the engine is older than time itself....

Why they chose the skyrim engine for a 2015 game baffles me.
This game would have shined on cry engine 3 or unreal engine 4 and the system requirements would have been more or less the makes great games but sometimes they're just DUMB!

Disable TXAA, install sweetfx, activate SMAA and sharpness filter = Crisp visuals
