When I visited downtown boston in real life I noticed some stuttering and script lag. Its nice of bethesda to take such good attention to detail in fallout 4.

The Boston FPS Fix & Previs mods conflict they are made by the same modder, Boston works with upscaler, Previs does not & both work with Nvidia Reflex but Reflext doesnt work with Upscaler.Reflect & Upscaler give around the same boost of FPS but Reflex looks better.

I find it funny how a game from 2015 is making my GTX 1660 cry while in downtown Boston and can't get more than 30 fps out of combat, and like 20 while in combat

This is the best compilation/explanation on how to boost your Fallout 4 performance I've seen yet. Thank you for making this so easy!

For those watching the video, consider PRP Lite or PRP Full instead of Boston FPS Fix PRP Edition as the patch was originally meant as an update for the original mod and I've abandoned it at this point, and you might have better results with either version of the PRP mod. PRP only helps in CPU bottleneck situations (typically with draw calls).

Also, for the next gen update, there's a known issue with NPC (in game actors, the people you talk to and kill) record changes causing stuttering due to a coding error that BGS has to patch. It's not the unofficial patch doing it intentionally.

Sweet lord that TAA suggestion is NOT recommended if you are playing on 1080p or below. If you are using any grass/tree mods, it creates a lot of flickering and aliasing since there are no previous frames to smooth out the edges. FXAA is not great either since it's just a post processing blur effect for approximate edges and makes the overall image worse. You WANT to use TAA in FO4, whether you are on 1080p, 1440p or 4K since majority of Grass/Tree Mods require such Anti-Aliasing to look good.

If you are bothered with TAA's blurriness, I'd suggest getting Reshade and use CAS.

Texture Quality is only taxing if you don't have enough VRAM and FO4 as a whole already looks bad with High Textures. FO4 can run Ultra textures (without mods) on a 3GB VRAM card which nowadays have 6GB (1660ti's) or 8GB (RTX 3050 to 3070 for example) and they can easily run it. Even a dinky GTX 750ti can run Textures on Ultra. Only lower it if you know you're starved for VRAM/RAM, otherwise use Ultra Textures.

FO4 as a whole without mods/ENB is not GPU intensive but more akin to CPU intensive. It requires a beefy single core performance as well as multi core performance. If you really want to boost your FPS and you already have a decent enough GPU, you want to upgrade your CPU for huge gains especially in Boston. (5800X3D for example is a HUGE gain over 5700x due to the L3 Cache)

The only reason Boston fucking sucks at running on nearly any hardware is due to the amount of draw calls it needs, even if you can't see them they are more likely to render in the background. PRP/Boston Fix fixes this.. mostly anyways.

If you want to improve CPU performance, I'd recommending reducing View Distance settings (Try Digital Foundry's setting) or reducing uGridstoLoad, it's a dangerous thing to change but I've been using 3 and Exterior Cell Buffer to 16 and I haven't gotten any issues with it (Finished Base Game + DLCs with UGrids to 3). It will however create a lot of pop ins so be aware of that.

8:37 PRP does exactly the same thing as the Boston FPS Fix, but for every cell in the game, not just Boston. But there is one thing. If you use Scrap Everything or other similar mods that break the links between objects, then PRP will either not work at all, or even cause issues.

Best video for fine-tune the FO4 !!! ... also I dont feel any improvement when using PRP (previs repair ..) .. but great tip the Shadow boost and the HFPSP ... thank you!! I was struggling with my mods, until I found u video . .now I have the game again in good shape

Running the game on a 4070 Ti, It's the Boston city area where the fps is horrible and all over the place for me. The only thing from here that has actually helped was Shadow Boost for fps and High FPS fix for lip syncing issues and the jump height bug. The other mod's I tried listed here either did nothing or made the performance of the game worse with the added bloat.

9:20 Baka ScrapHeap does not allocate memory for the game, but for scripts. By default, the FO4 has 70 mb for scripts, and if scripts take up more space, the game will start loading and unloading them to free up RAM. But if you have less than 70 mb installed (in the Scripts folder), you won't even notice the difference.

♥ thank you been having a hard time finding those ini files

I used Nytra's optimized landscape and building texture mods, which really made the game playable but I'm not sure I think they may be broken now.

To fix your gpu utilization you can Nvidia DSR to upscale your resolution

I did everything yet my fps are still caped at 60 even goes down to 48 when I launch the game, I have an rtx 3060 and I remember not so long ago I was playing the game with like 50+ mods and it was running smoothly at like 140+ fps I don't understand, and when I launch the game for the first time to change graphic settings I have a message that the game doesn't recognize my graphic card and will set the game to low and when I set the game to run using the gpu manually nothing changes still at 60, checked the refresh rate of the monitor everything is fine tried everything, have the latest updates for the gpu drivers, I start getting desperate
Edit: am not using the next gen version

i have Intel i5-3470 3.2ghz pair with GT 730 4gb and 16gb RAM, normaly without performance Mods FAllout4 will run only 25-35fps, but with performace mods ( some use your suggestion ) my fallout4 run very smooth and have 59 - 145fps but sometimes drop to 35fps in some area. not big deal remembering i run fallout4 on old device

I'm getting stable 60 fps without Shadow Boost, but when i used it, the game randomly stutters or freezes for seconds and also is there a way to log scripts? I'm still getting random stutter but not so severe like it was before.

Hey, is anyone have a tip for me? I’m only crashing when I am using the vertibird in the Vertibird mod. Only when it flys around too many buildings. I’ve adjusted my settings all the way to the lowest and it still happens. 8 GB of Ram on 500 Gb hard drive
