If you want to rest, relax, rejuvenate, but can't quite fall into a nap, then NSDR is a fancified way is go. Meditation is something else completely. It's about developing your mind, not resting it.

The speaker has quite a lot of knowledge and of course the experience about what he is talking about and I am sure he knows nsdr is done in more depth only in meditation and only meditators can do .
What is meditation? 1 of the explanation of meditation is it is self hypnosis. Infact deep meditation is to hypnotise own self into empty ness or deprogram our programmed mind instead of input something by hypnosis.
Nsdr does have some benefits just like various types of yoga to make your mind calmer but it doesn’t even touches the deeply rooted impurities of the mind. Yes if it is only for sleeping purpose it is good enough but Recommending or says it works better then meditation is wrong.
Therefore nothing is greater then meditation specifically vipassana.
Or any other mindfulness meditation as taught in Buddhism.
But of course as speaker mentioned lots of us don’t practice meditation regularly or stop after a retreat, in this case hypnosis does help a lot and which is a blessing for those who doesn’t know how to meditate and are going through crises as he explained.

Nothing gives better / deep sleep then meditation!

I have to laugh when he mentions peeps can't focus enough to meditate. I've seen this repeatedly and in fact most 'retreat-ants' are, understandably, this way. The shallowness I see in this predicament is similar to how we treat medical ailments, we get a Rx instead of taking the time to look deeply at ourselves and perhaps try traditional remedies (if the case isn't acute and we're unqualified for stronger traditional practices) to heal. If we cannot focus we quickly dismiss the traditional (meditation) method of calming or mind and try the next new thing, ineffectual or not.

Completely disagree..The very benefit of meditation is to build a stronger less dependable mind so that when life's challenges come in our way we're equipped with a strong mind that could deal with adversity in a stronger way.. However, with NSDR, our mind is dependent on an external source to guide the mind . Therefore, we do not get the same benefits..
