The title is very misleading. It implies that he's suggesting to not get more than 6 hrs of sleep but what he's actually saying is don't cut the natural process of sleep. Don't wake up in the middle of the cycle (non-rem) or else you'll end up feeling groggy. If your sleep doesn't get interrupted by an alarm or anything, you'll be fine.

If you get full 6 or 7 hours, very deep sleep.
This is better than 8 and lazy to wake.
I get up after 6 feeling ready as fuck for the day everyday.

folks plz take this advice seriously because it's absolutely true. get a sleep test done to see how long your cycles actually are because these cycles can last from 90-120 minutes. or so your own self test by measuring how you feel after 6, 7, 8, and 9 hours of sleep. test this for about a month or at least 2 weeks and you'll hopefully find your sweet spot.

When I graduated high school, I started working in a factory and was working 64 hours a week. Ever since then, my body won't let me sleep any more than 6 hours

6 hrs 20min. Idk why that’s the magic number for me. Just slightly more than 6. I used to sleep 10-12 hours a day was always tired.

Glad you're spreading Huberman, we can't have enough it. Although I don't think that he says you should not sleep 8 hours. He says that if you wake up before the 90 minutes cycle ends it can make you feel worse than on 6.
Or am I missing a conclusion he says later in the podcast?

The number of hours over complicated this - he should have said “you want to sleep through a complete cycle and wake up at the end, if you wake up mid cycle, regardless of how long you have slept, you may be groggy”. The important message from this is that you should wake up when your body wants to.

I go days without sleep sometimes and still go to work and function. My eyes dont stay closed when i sleep, im lucky if i get 5 hours, thats a fantastic night for me
