No one likes going over the bars, so here's Blake with a few tips to help you avoid getting bucked forwards when jumping on your mountain bike 🤘

It's hard to stop being bucked over the bars once it has started so prevention is the best cure. Suspension set up, tyre pressure, body weight, and pre loading the jump will all help you send without going OTB!

People think I'm wearing a back pack while riding but it's actually a parachute in case I start to go over the bars.

OMG getting bucked scares the crap out of me! You just go into slow motion and see your life pass before your eyes. AHAHAHAAHAHAA!

Also, it might not be obvious to everyone, but make sure you are off the brakes going over the jump. Applying any brakes on a jump will shift your weight forward and send you OTB.

Wish I watched this 3 days ago, wouldn't be posting from hospital ☹

Simple. Don’t sit down when you jump!! Easy!

Blake is a legend to have to teach this to people.

Pro Tip: Don't go down a steep rock garden when its nearly dark, day-dreaming and your body weight isn't back 👍

Great advice on bike setup, Blake!
I think another common cause is when someone doesn't fully commit to a jump and changes their mind on the lip, suddenly attempting to soak it up or scrub it. They end up lifting their front wheel over the lip or trying to soak up their bike with their legs. Their rear wheel cannot do the same and their legs will not have enough travel for the jump. Essentially their front tire scrubs and their rear tire jumps, sending them OTB.

A lot of you tubers who try to teach jumping say "bunny hop the lip", or "pre-load your suspension by pushing into the takeoff". Though correct, this is bad advice for someone who is trying to learn to jump, aka your viewers. Good advice: Go to a properly made jump and practice riding over it with your weight balanced over both wheels, don't concern yourself with air time, the jump should do the work for you and eventually you'll be clearing it without any bunny hopping. Then, practice controlling that balance in the air to maneuver the bike. If you've never jumped before, THIS is where you start. You don't start by learning to bunny hop, that's for more experienced jumpers who strictly want to add height to their jump.

finally, an explanation that makes sense, tired of dumb instructions, to 'just send it'.

I have the opposite problem - I'm so scared of going OTB that my jumps are lame! One piece that I find confusing: I've heard many times that good bunnyhop technique gives you the foundation for jumping, but I'm not sure which specific bits of bunnyhopping! For example, in this vid Blake gave the tip that you shouldn't drop back over the rear wheel, which is a key part of bunnyhop technique. I probably need to just practice more, and get the feel for it.

Started to happen to me and pushed the tush back just in time to save! Total miracle.

That’s me on the second crash, thank you Blake for all your pro tipps, basically I was going way to fast as it was the first time hitting a big boy like that and simply caused to jump in the flat... I usually ride a more stiffy suspension but forgot to put it back to hard, so the bike set up does all the difference, thanks once again !

Over the past couple of months, I've been trying to get my jumping mojo back (not easy in your late 40's) and honestly, the "well, duh..." moment for me was just remembering to pull up on the take off. Yeah, it's so simple, but I swear in most of the "Fails" videos I see, that is the number one thing riders do wrong - they come into a jump fast, have a bit of a panic and then forget to pull up. Then they become a passenger and an OTB becomes more likely.

Every time I save myself from going OTB I pancake into the stem, really feels great on the sternum for a few weeks.
