Hi Katy,
I appreciate this video and can imagine your community is proud of you for being in a position where you are able to quit your day job to pursue your passion project. As a millennial (4 years into my own career) I do have to say the discussion around influencers quitting day jobs because they dont bring them joy is slightly offputting to new grads. The majority of recent graduates who continue into entry level positions do not enjoy the work that they do, find themselves overworked, undervalued and not fully stimulated. The fact of the matter is there is a reason that you are paid to work a job; and you pay to experience hobbies.

There is nothing wrong with your video. But i do feel the need to pass along that the majority of new grads are experiencing all the issues you were without the ability to up and quit. I am excited for you in this new chapter. But as a role model for many young women, It should be important to communicate to your audience the demands of the corporate environment so as to make sure that they do not naively enter into the world expecting to fully be content in their jobs - or quit.

Cheers!

DID NOT SEE THIS COMING. i have enjoyed ur l’oréal videos but i’m so happy for what’s next for you. you were the first youtuber I ACTUALLY ever subscribed to like 5 years ago. 🖤

edit: after watching the whole video. I hate how difficult this is for youtubers when it shouldn’t be. the reality is no one wants to be in a job that they are miserable in. if you have the opportunity to follow ur dreams you should!!! not only that employers move on in the snap of a finger, her position will be replaced (let’s all remember she works for a million dollar company) she will get to pursuer her dreams, and her past job at l’oréal is going to open a door for someone else to pursue their dream job (her position) 🌿 so proud of

also i have a small vlog channel if you wanna be friends :)

life is too short to not follow your passions or care what anyone else has to say about that. SO damn proud of you my love!! You're gonna kill it.

but i can totally relate when she said “by the time my work goes through these people, its no longer mine”.. original creativity just suffers so much in corporate life!! creating should be fun and fulfilling, compromising ends up hurting your own creative energy.

Honestly when I first read the title I was disappointed. I love watching YouTubers who have relatable lifestyles. HOWEVER once I actually sat down and watched the video my view completely changed. I’m so glad you aren’t quitting just to focus solely on YouTube and social media alone. Starting a business is SO COOL and I think that many of your followers will enjoy that content just as much :) I know I am excited. Yeah you might not be sitting at a desk all day like me but you are still doing real work!!! And not just getting spray tans and going to soul cycle. I admire your courage and am really excited for this new stage in your life ❤️ as a fellow graphic designer I hope one day that I can go fully free lance too 🤞🏼 it is hard being a creative and working in a corporate company I totally get that girl (lol sorry this was so long)

thank you for opening up! it's interesting to see so many youtubers growing up and doing different things this year. i just graduated and i'm spending 24/7 trying to figure my future out and its HARD. there's so many options and it's easy to feel pressured into feeling like you have to have the "perfect" life and career. but anyone not on youtube can probably relate MORE to the fact that life is strange and scary when you're young. i think your choice was empowering and intuitive - something i'd rather look up to than someone who is afraid of being themselves and accepting that they deserve a happy life measured by their OWN standards. ok thats all for my rant good luck love xoxo

I was always wondering how you were doing it all - watching your Instagram stories of you doing all of these things and also working a 9-5, it‘s completely understandable that you can’t do it all! After a while you have to decide what’s most important to you!

This is the most millennial video ever and i say that as a millennial. We never thought we'd be doing things we didn't dream of doing for some reason

Wow I didn’t expect this! Katy I’ve been following you since the beginning and I’ve always related to you. However, I recently graduated uni and I’ve been trying to get a good job to further my career and not a filler job and it’s been difficult. So when I saw you at your job I always had this “why couldn’t my life be like that? Job offer out of college and just having it together?” So it’s really eye opening to hear that you felt the opposite at times. Thank you for sharing and opening up. Good luck ❤️❤️

So so happy for you Katy! I’m in a huge transition period in my life, having just graduated university and starting a full time job soon. I found the quote “everything you want is on the other side of fear” the other week and it really resonated with me. To hear you say it in this video feels like a sign. Keep killing the game girl!

Cannot stand some of these comments, it is unbelievable. I totally understand some of you, being in the same boat, but why put someone down for being able to quit their job? I absolutely hate my job and would love to quit right now, but when I watched this video, I was so happy that Katy is able to do this for herself. Every time someone does something to make themselves happy, there is always other people who hate it. If you haven't noticed, she is incredibly smart and knows there are people out there who cannot do what she does. But all of these comments of "oh well you are actually able to quit your job" or "you're lucky you can do this, I'm suffering at my job and can't do what you're doing" or "you're so privileged to do this" are full of jealousy and anger. A majority of people will not get their dream job right out of school, and a lot will not in their life, but you can work towards it. My mom just got her dream job at 57 years old. Life is not easy and definitely not fair. But stop trying to bring someone else down because you aren't happy. Be happy for her and work towards whatever you want to in your life. Congrats Katy!!

YouTubers: “Why I left my 9-5 job”

Me: Umm because you can afford to ....

This came at an amazing time because next Friday will be my last shift at my job and TECHNICALLY I've left without another job simply because I was unhappy where I was in this toxic workplace. I have ambitions in the works (that have been growing for about a month now) to start my own business and I'm just massively determined to make it work for myself because it's something that I'm so passionate about. I feel your happiness and that weight that's been lifted off your shoulders. I look forward to seeing your videos in the future about entrepreneurship.

Please realize how much privilege you have to be able to quit your job. Yes, we understand that YouTubers and Instagram Influencers don't like to have a "traditional" job so to speak but in reality that is not feasible for 99% of the population. The rest of us have student loans and bills to pay where we don't make $500 for posting a sponsored instagram photo.

I have 9-5 job in a creative agency, that I LOVE! Year back I could not imagine myself doing it, it seemed like something awful that kills creativity and all the fun in life. I am really lucky to find a job that I adore and happy to go every single day so I just wanted everyone to know that having a stable job is not the worst thing ever, although people have different paths! Some people freelance, some people do 9-5, some hustle. Whatever works for yall, but sticking up to something that makes your truly miserable and hate your life may mean that it is time for a change. Enjoy the ride! Katy, good luck! 🍀 Since you moved to New York City I’ve been following you religiously, one of the few youtubers I still enjoy! I wish you the best, girl! ❤️

Totally in the same boat. I just made a major life change myself. After chasing a dream for three years, I realized my dream has changed. I was so afraid of what people would think or if I was making the right decision.

Despite what some people will think/say, I admire you for making such a difficult decision and sharing it with us.
