Cleanliness and hygiene were encouraged and regularly practiced in both the Wehrmacht and Waffen SS.

What an awful cheaply produced video with vague facts.

The Germans were very good at building trenches and bunkers and bathed regularly as it was a good morale booster, they even built against flood water and had rat protection. ❤

According to Bill Malden’s “Up Front” the Germans (fighting fairy close to home) couldn’t believe that American GIs (who had to cross an ocean) survived on C & K rations. The GIs had plenty of food- it just wasn’t all that great.

The Germans sent all their fresh food up to the front, as it was unlikely to spoil before it got there. US food had to be non perishable in order to make the trip to Europe.

We went 10 days without showers once on a drill. Nobody really notice much, but when we finally hit the showers, and came out clean, goddam the unshowered smelled so bad, worse than an actual pig sty

I'm sure they were astonished to see Germans wearing the typically French poilu helmet.

Americans aren’t known for provocative humour, but they are known for their pomposity. Which is this supposed to be ?

My Polish Grandfather sponsored a German family to come to the US after WW2... his family literally lost everything escaping Poland after the Germans invaded. According to my Cioci (aunt), he didn't even think twice about it.❤❤❤

You are telling me, that the guys, that often first dug out their "toilets" first instead of a combat trench, did not know how to wash?

My father is 91 and was involved in WW2 as a child, and laughs at today's society and this video.

Papered American service men. The Germans were, and still are very fastidiously clean. Unfortunately they did not pocess all the luxury and excess of the American service's. Most armies had to make do with what they had at hand. They did not have the luxury of flown in Coca cola, choclate cakes, and shower fittings.

Alcohol and being German go hand in hand. 😊

During WW2, they attempted to wash as much as possible, although it was often very difficult at the front lines. The Germans have always been known for cleanliness. Even SS Colonel Joachim Pieper complained that he wasn't allowed to wash "for weeks" after being taken captive, although he often asked permisson to do so. Bathing was a priority.

The narrator was wrong, this was supposed to be WW1.
