Neither dude was punished correctly. 24 years is not enough and 6 years is an insult.

he thinks two lives are worth 6 years... he needs life no parole...

Not being held accountable? Is that what this dude wants? Unacceptable. 24 years isn’t long enough, it’s an insult to the family and to anyone who’s lost a family member like this.

In India the culprit has to write 300 words essay on road safety after killing with car

Lawyer tears are inadmissible in court. 24 years sounds about right to me. 6 does not, they should’ve gotten nearly the same sentence

24 yrs is nothing. That mother and baby and their family can’t get their loved ones back. Should have thought about your actions kid

Congratulations to the judge for having the fortitude for doing the right thing.

"This is the case, that keeps me awake at night." Like it keeps the victims family awake, knowing their daughter/wife/sister and her one year old daughter were mowed down by some street racers who were driving over 100mph/160km?

Excessive? For two lives? It's clear how much value this guy puts on their lives. A life for a life. He should forfeit his life. If I were the husband, this would not be over yet.

If he actually felt badly, he wouldn't be asking for such a light sentence.

Driving a car carelessly and no care for people in or around the street, he doesn’t deserve a short sentence! It’s time to start clamping down on this stuff as it is getting out of control!!!!

Yeah no sorry he 100% deserves at least 30 years.

This entitled S.O.B. thought that because his parents are wealthy that he could do whatever he wanted to do whenever he wanted. Not this time! Justice is finally upheld. Bravo to the legal system in this case.

Justice was served. Don’t excuses this by saying it’s an accident. When you drive like this you willingly put other people in danger for your fun. He deserves his full sentence!

Yeah I believe he should get a reduced sentence, just as soon as he comes up with a time machine goes back in time and doesn't kill that Mom and child. but until that day, he needs the maximum sentence allowable. This was a horrific crime. This was horrible for the family but this was horrible for everyone in the area.

I dont get how this fool isn't in there for life. He killed a mother and her baby, how can people say that 24 years for that is excessive

"This is the case that keeps me awake at night"

Yeah, for the wrong reasons. You feel bad for your client, but what about the woman and child he killed?

The wide-eyed look you see on Cameron's face is the moment when the judge announced that for the second count of vehicular homicide he was getting the maximum, 15 years. For the first offense, he got 9 nine years. This was when Cameron realized that he was being sentenced to 24 years.

Does he hang his head in shame? Does he cry out of remorse? No. He just looks shocked, like he thinks the whole thing is unfair. A 24 year-old mother, and a toddler who wasn't even two years old. Dead, because of him.

I didn't expect him to do well at appeals, and he didn't. First, the judge followed the sentencing guidelines. And second, became Cameron Herrin had no priors, he did not get the maximum. The maximum would have been 30 years.

So, what is the grounds for appeal? The lawyer said it was excessive. But it was not. The sentence was in the guidelines and Herrin did not get the maximum. So, his appeal failed. Interesting tidbit: on September 9 of 2024, Cameron will be 25 years old. That's older than Jessica (the mother he killed) was before she died, thanks to him.

Another interesting tidbit: Thanks in no small part to the pandemic and the lawyer employing every dirty trick in the book to delay the sentencing hearing, it took 1064 days since the accident for Herrin to go to finally go to court for the sentencing hearing. Which is longer than Lillia (the toddler who Cameron killed) had been allowed to live, thanks to Herrin.

And during that time between the accident and the sentencing, Herrin was able to attend two years of college.

One more bit of information: the day after the accident, and the day Lillia, the little girl, had died, Cameron's lawyer was already in court, trying to get Cameron's license reinstated. Gee, I'm really glad that killing two people didn't upset Cameron so much that he didn't see any problem with getting his license back. "I gotta have my license while I'm in college. Wouldn't look cool in front of the college babes to have the 'rents drop me off."
