Judge denies Cameron Herrin's request to reduce 24-year sentence in deadly Bayshore crash

A Hillsborough County circuit judge rejected a request to reduce a 24-year prison sentence set for Cameron Herrin, the man convicted of killing a mother and her daughter in a crash on Bayshore Boulevard.

Herrin and his legal team assert that on the day after his sentencing for the 2018 deaths, then-State Attorney Andrew Warren left a voicemail message calling the sentence "excessively harsh," reads court documents filed Nov. 8. Warren reportedly said, in later conversations, that 10 years would have been "OK."

Excessively harsh is going by everyday without your spouse and your child, knowing they died horribly, painfully and very much afraid on those last moments. Never understood why the sentences for vehicular manslaughter when you were racing, or drinking should be less than homicides.

What’s excessively harsh is that poor man never being able to hold his wife or his little girl just because some stupid teenagers decided to put their and lot of people’s lives in danger and thinking they could get get away with it.

It’s really the perfect sentence. All he had to do was take accountability like his friend did who got a 6 year sentence. Instead him and his family pledged how hard it was on their own family and that he’s too young etc. as if he didn’t rob 2 people of their entire lives. You can crawl out of a prison but not a grave

Why only 24 years? He took away 2 young lives, one was a baby, not from ordinary traffic accident, but from illegal speed racing going 100+ miles per hour (twice the speed limit).
