I have had to live a difficult life for sometime when my partner of 20 years turned on me and stopped all intimacy and blamed everything that was wrong in her life on me. It took me 6 years to stabilise in my mind and accept that the old partner was gone and stop trying to win her approval so we could go back to where we were. Ironically now she is trying to be nicer to me, but I dont feel like it anymore. She can be my friend, but I dont feel like anything more. I started feeling independent again.

💯 and when they do own up and apologize, change never follows. Or it follows for a quick minute but it’s over. This is how they make you feel like you didn’t accept their apology or still “hung up” on the previous atrocities when they never changed their behavior, they just said sorry. They use sorry as a muzzle, so you stop calling them out and try to solidify boundaries. They will use apologies as a manipulation tactic

At the time I didn't understand it but every single time i set boundaries or simply Said no or disagreed I was accused of being misogynistic chauvinistic and ultimately put in the same category as her father and other men in her life that abused her in anyway. Pay attention - ppl will tell you who they are (long before you will feel the need to set boundaries) - believe them!
