The bottom of the ladder should never be that far out. He also needs head protection. You were right and he very easily could have really hurt himself.

Your husband needs to learn to use a ladder before he hurts himself. The height adjusts and he had it set way too tall with the wrong pitch causing the bottom of the ladder to kick out.
