I agree with everything she's saying but I also think there are parts of our society that have been specifically designed to prevent us from resting in the way she's talking about. Tired people are compliant people.

I watched this a month or so ago and have been making a point of ‘resting’ more during my day. It has really made a difference and given me permission to meet my body’s needs throughout the day. Came back to try and get my head around all the different kinds of rest

I have noticed this conversation becoming more prominent these days. We are finally realizing this mad cycle of living to work, with no real time for actual rest and small moments of joy is leading to such wide spread suffering.

LOL everybody here because you are tired?

Yes! Just before watching this I was telling my wife that I think society has confused rest and sleep and that I think there are probably different types of rest for different stressors. Then I came across this video just a few minutes later. Thank you!

This is why I like Ted talks, they bring people with something real and important to say.

This message is becoming more and more vital as we start to question what it means to have a quality of life. I feel like the pandemic has put this into the spotlight.

I'm here for this. For too long we have been living in a culture that encourages burn out. If we don't take the time to set boundaries and rest, we will continue this awful cycle.

I just read your book Sacred Rest. It has been life altering for me. I’ve recommended it to lots of friends. Thank you for writing this.

I need all these types of rest all the time! I lost everything to burnout several years ago and it's changed my life completely. I'm now so super wary of pushing myself and being around people is exhausting! But I still struggle to be OK with just "being" and not "producing". The societal messaging is very persistent!

This is such a good argument for why self-care is so important.

I find it really interesting that most peoples ideas of unwinding include things that just make them more exhausted.

As an empath with its associated issues of exhaustion this talk casts light on sleep deprivation. A notepad really works on nights my mind won't turn off. A mental antidote to your mind tossing and turning.

Just taping into this from a bible study I was doing about entering into His rest. This is so interesting and as a Health & Wellness Coach I believe this is something amazing I can share with my clients. Thank you for this eye-opening conversation on the 7 Types of Rest.

YES! We need to share this more and more, in a world where we are told that we will fail unless we strive, we need to be told that we are human and have human needs in order to achieve. If we do not rest, we aren’t living.

Amazing that it's taking such an upheaval for us to understand and appreciate the need for actual rest and reflection - not continuously beating ourselves up because we aren't reaching so unattainable target.

A good tip is also to understand our circadian rhythm. Simply turning off the lights is also very good for our sleep.

I'm surprised that she didn't mention physical activities. It can help a lot to activate our body to relax our minds

100% true. We can’t solve the chronic fatigue by just sleeping. The emotion can’t sleep
, it requires some deep correction
