Shaun, a young doctor, joins a renowned hospital in San Jose, California, but his colleagues do not socialise with him. He uses his skills to treat patients and prove his abilities to his co-workers.

there was actually something wrong with the patient that only shawn (dr murphy) saw that meant they couldn’t do the operation but the realisation panicked him and he couldn’t explain what was wrong because of the stress and obviously sensory overload coming from the fact he has autism and couldn’t get the words out and explain what was upsetting him

I really like that the other doctor was genuinely trying to help. Like, he asked "what's wrong?", instead of being insensitive about it, cause he knew SOMEHTHING was wrong but he didn't know what. He was kind about it : )

Damnnn... Freddie highmore is such a top tier actor. All of his performances are phenomenal. He never delivered even an average performance. Each time I was blown away and I also think he is one of the most underappreciated actors in Hollywood right now.

He got upset because this was his first surgery that he was going to do, super excited for it, but when they got ready only Shaun seen that the original surgery wasn't needed but a specialty surgery that he couldn't perform. The specialty surgery would have made her life so much better, she was a chef and wouldn't have been able to taste food for the remainder of her life with the first one but could with the specialty bamboo surgery. He realized he could give that back to her.

This is a really good example of what happens when an autistic person gets a panic attack, if this was to occur in real life the best cause of action is send one resident probably a nurse to calm the doctor down and organise a way to get him home and find a second surgeon or cancel the surgery for that time till another surgeon is available.

I find it annoying how he’s amazing at his job, and literally the best doctor in there 99% of the time and everyone’s like “ omg he’s so amazing, he’s doing cool savant syndrome stuff” but the second he shows any signs of needing a little extra support or gets overwhelmed and has an autistic meltdown instead of thinking “ok he’s just upset he needs help right now” everyone is suddenly like “ ha! I Knew it! We should never have hired an autistic doctor, he can’t do anything right!” When he saved like 27 children dying of cancer a few minutes ago. Cut him some slack.

The entire time I wanted to be like “5 things you can see dr. Murphy. 4 things you can hear.” And give him a stress toy. I can relate. Sensory overloads are real. I sort of wish the show made it more clear that that is what that looks like. People probably thought he was being immature.
