It's a staph infection, my buddy got a splinter once, his thumb looked it was gonna explode.

Amputation! But the middle finger is needed for regular communication while driving and that's his window hand.

when you shatter a finger or toe it looks exactly like that. i know from having it happen to me. thats after working the rest of your shift before you go to the hospital. at that point doctors will be impressed but they wont give you a cast or splint, nothing but pain killers and tell you to rest. the blood swelling acts as a cast and puts pressure on the bones to hold them in place. once the body begins its natural healing process theres not much the doctors can do.

it could also be an allergic reaction... i know when i take amoxicilan my fingers all swell up to the point that them touching each other hurts... but i agree this isn't because it was broken multiple times, ... but breaking a bone can lead to infections and some cases even an air bubble in the blood. i'd probably poke it with a needle and see if it drains... if it doesn't then it could be a tumor, if it does then the color of the drainage will tell you loads toward it being an infection or allergic reaction.

I fix a lot of things myself but I think that's one that you better get to the doctor

Yup chronic infections under or inside the fractured bone the absolute worst thing to have, took me 6 surgeries to get rid of because it would just keep coming back and interfere with the bone trying to make a solid piece of mass.

I broke my finger and ended up getting 4 screws and surgery
Now I have popped my finger by accident and it hurts so damn bad they told me not to and to make sure never to break it again 17 years later I’m still having pain

I honestly despise people that let themselves get this bad without getting checked out cause usually they're the ones to complain about how much they have to pay and how it would've been cheaper if they got it checked earlier/an easy fix.
