My friends husband didn't wash a wound site after he fell. After two weeks of not getting better. Plus, he had lied to his wife about taking care of it. Emergency visit, tried draining the small hole, didn't get the result the doctor wanted. He ended up with the leg cut from the knee to ankle. He has celitessis. They put a drain in his leg and packed the hole. Now, he has a blood pump to filter the poison out. A 6 week process because he didn't clean a wound.

This is something Doctors always get wrong lol. I’m a RN NAWCCB, basically meaning I’m certified as a wound specialist nurse. Wet to dry dressings are actually bad for wound healing. They tend to remove the healthy tissue along with the bad, slowing wound healing and also causing quite a bit of pain in the process. No wet to dry dressings!

Actually wet to dry dressings are no longer the prefered method for debridement. It causes unnecessary pain to the patient causing worse clinical outcomes.

This actually happened to me! I did what they tell you not to do and I ran by the pool, fell and scraped my Leg BAD. I put a bandaid over it and was so scared to look at it but I waited too long, the skin came off with the bandaid and it was all gross and I had to let it breathe for like a day before putting on another bandaid

My dad (a doctor) told me bandaids and dressing are primarily to alow the wound to scab over and protect it while doing so after which it is best practices to keep it uncovered or covered with a breathable bandage then keep your hands off it and let your body do its work.

I had this cut on my thumb which I managed to get in the most weirdest way possible in school, I came back home and put on a bandage. That was not a good idea, the next day i removed the bandage and my finger beneath was like white as hell. The skin on the thumb was so moisture devoid that it appeared that another cut had formed which was just curled up skin. I removed the bandage and it healed times quicker.

Wet to dry is old school doc! There are many different dressings you could use that have silver in them and all drainage.

Silver alginate with bordered foam dressing, change every 3-4 days or more often if increased serous drainage from leg. If increased swelling (edema) to leg, use a compression wrap and prevent any rolling or sliding down that occurs. If burning, redness to site, odor, change in color of drainage or increased swelling, see a medical provider.

Wet to dry is also painful. Use medihoney changing every 2-3 days to remove slough. Then use a foam dressing that can be left in place up to 7 days. Remove q7d and prn dislodged or soaked.
