Basically it’s when you don’t sit up straight you slowly get that lump and over the years it could turn into a hunchback but that’s very rare and it’s nothing to worry about because every human has one unless they sit up straight so yeah no need to worry

God put a shelf there to rest your barbell on when you're doing squats.

If you’re past 10 years old and did not know this… maybe not the exact name, but general understanding. I have no words.

It’s normal to have but once it starts to stick out too much then it could be from forward head posture

I'm 75 years old. I started to develop this bump a year ago. For the last three years, I have been swimming a lot, even the butterfly, on a daily basis. My daughter said she remembers my long-ballet-dancer neck. I have exercised all my life and was a gymnast as a teenager. In fact, my daughter told me that my whole back is full of muscles like a young woman. It's only that bump in my neck surrounded by unusual muscles that made me lose my "elegance, " according to her. Luckily at my age, I don't care about elegance.

A Chyropracter told me that was abnormal and that is why I should undergo treatments with him to correct it.

But it hurts badly and I can’t sleep normally, I have a serious pillow issue. I’ve bought every pillow known to man. Cheap ones, very expensive ones, ones with deep gussets, ones with slim gussets, ones with no gussets, memory foam ones, down feather filled ones, adjustable filling ones, ones for every specific sleeping position like back sleepers and side sleepers, firm ones, lofty ones and even that stupid “My Pillow” one. I have a massive pile of discarded pillows I’ve tried and couldn’t relax my neck pain on. I’ve tried three different mattresses. I’ve done neck muscle exercises and tried sleeping in every position except on my stomach which I heard can exacerbate the problem. I don’t know what to do. I’m not a sedentary person either, I don’t sit at a desk or on the couch nor do I lay down during the day. I tried hot showers aimed on my neck to ease up muscle tension. I dread bed time because I can’t get comfortable with my neck bump. I’m at a loss and it’s causing insomnia which is in turn amping up my depression. What the hell do I do

Sadly, I have a severe hump that I've had since I was in my late 20's. I went to my pcp (primary care physiciam), who told me that it was scar tissue from when I had been in a car accident a few years before and had strained my thoriclumbar muscle. Im now 64 and am in constant severe pain from my neck and hump, which is due to being diagnosed with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and degenerative disc disease!!! Ive had 2 back surgeries so far. The last one was in July 2018, which my spine surgeon called a 360. This procedure is definitely not for the faint of heart due to being cut on both the front and back of my body!!!! I was given no choice due to I would have been paralyzed without it!!! Now, Im told that the scar tissue on my hump can't be removed and the mobility I have in my neck would be greatly reduced, if I have another operation at this time. Keep in mind that I currently cant turn my head to the left without intense pain, the recurring headaches make a migraine seem tame and then I have constant pain on my right side of my neck 24/7, which feels like a severe crick in my neck!!! I am taking pain medication, which does give some relief, but the level of pain is never completely gone nor does this relief last for any extended period of time before I must take another dose!!! There are so many of us suffering like this without any future of living a pain-free life or being able to find joy in what our life is now like compared to what it was before that some have made the choice to end things rather than continue with life and knowing that the future will only become more bleaker as time goes on!!! My husband and the rest of my family have kept me from making that choice, because i wouldn't want them to have to deal with having to pick up the pieces or remembering me the wrong way. I just do my best to stay positive and hope that there will be a surgery down the road that woll help me have a better quality of life and be able to enjoy what time I do have left. Please, stop making light of this bump as this video depicts, because it isnt okay nor is it funny at all!!! Thank you.

I’m convinced using our phones several hours a day may be exacerbating this if it’s causing pain. My PT even told me to hold my phone up as much as possible.

Um, yeah. I've never wondered about that but thank you. I just figured 'top of spine' and went about my day.

I have cervical spondylolisthesis in my C6-C7, so I know exactly what’s back there. Most of the time it’s pain!
