I’m actually happy to see realistic, non-runner mile times here! Every time I’ve run one I’ve gotten between 10-12 minutes and I’m also NOT a runner! Great job

I’ve been running a mile a day for a few weeks. I took up better eating habits, and my body just *feels* better. No, I’m not overweight, and no, I don’t have any allergies. I simply took it up because I was sick and tired of always being out of shape and being that one kid in pe who was falling behind. You did so well! <3

I started getting into running this past year, I joined cross country and I'm not exaggerating when I say that it changed my life and how I view myself. My body image has improved a lot because being able to run three miles all at once and have that be "normal" lifts my self esteem and I've started loving my body for what it can do. I've also gained a lot more energy. Every time I go on a run, I'm so energetic for the rest of the day and it feels so good! I've also discovered that I actually like running, something that I didn't know was possible until I tried it for myself. So yes, distance running and running in general is hard, but it's worth it!

Thank you for showing your real workout face. It’s red and sweaty, and that’s completely normal! I’m so sick of people pretending they have a full face of makeup while working out..

Don’t worry about running, you can actually improve by a lot with just a bit of consistency. Before I couldn’t run a mile in 13 minutes, now I can run a mile in 6 and a half minutes.

I used to hate HATE cardio and running. Still 50/50 on the running but it gives me endorphins and now cardio us my fave!

a couple of things for new runners:

-a fast mile time is not indicative of weight - obviously, the more you weigh the more you’re carrying when you run, so you may go slower (think: running with just your clothes on vs running with a stuffed backpack), but there are techniques and running forms that runners learn to run quickly. striving for a shorter mile time is fun, but shouldn’t be your main goal unless you plan on running timed marathons.

- the “tone” that seems apparent when you start running a lot is most likely due to shedding water weight - mostly through your sweat. your fat cells don’t hold on to the water when you sweat, so they are less “plump”. losing actual fat takes longer than a week.

- if losing weight is an ultimate goal, know that running burns the most calories. which means that you HAVE to EAT MORE!!! obviously foods with higher water & lower fat content is better (see: many vegetables), but trying to uphold an exercise regiment without giving your body the calories it needs will just ruin everything for you. your muscles burn loads and loads of calories. fat barely burns any. when you don’t take in the calories your body thinks it needs, it’ll try to get rid of the highest calorie burners to save itself - that means your muscles will suffer. when your body is well fed and your muscles are being used, then your body will start to use up your fat reserves for extra energy.

Running a mile a day for 7 days won’t make you lose weight. That’s roughly 700 calories burned for the week.

I remember just over a month ago, I sturggled to run over 1 minute. 1 minute was hell for me. I'd try running for a minute and then walking and vice versa. My dad encouraged me and told me that he'll be really happy to see me run long distances with him. Now, I can solidly run 1 mile without stopping and in a consistent speed and I've never been so proud of myself health wise before. I want to achieve body positivity by the end of this year and be real proud of myself. I hope your dreams and goals get fulfilled one day too! Have a great day:))

You should do it for a month and show results!

Everyone starts slow. When I first started running, I could barely run for 2 minutes before I got out of breath. Turns out, your lungs also need to build stamina to keep you going. I never knew that before. I can now run for over an hour before I get out of breath. Running actually makes you feel amazing afterwards; really does release those endorphins. I recommend it.

Running a mile everyday is not going to help you lose fat. It’s a lot more than a ten minute workout a day. It’s consistency and the food you eat.
