Squatting at 140 degrees Celsius may not be optimal indeed.

Degrees celsius? Really? They were doing squats in a sauna? Lol.

If squats train hams,
bench press trains biceps.

Same biomechanics

Imagine being part of the fitness experiment where the exercise is proven to be ineffective lol. I wanna be part of the exercise experiment that gives gains.

Any hip hinge or leg curl can only train hamstrings. Eventhough squat is a form of hip flexion, the stretch in hamstrings is cancelled by the flexion at knee simultaneously.

Biceps curls doesnt build the triceps. Shocking truth

Hamstrings are muscles that originate from ischial tuberosity on the hip. They insert over the knee joint on the lateral and medial sides of the tibia and fibula. I.e. they connect your hip to your calf. They are the main muscles responsible for knee flection. Quadriceps are the main muscle responsible for knee extension as they originate at the ilium and femur, come together in a tendon surrounding the patella, and insert at the tibia. I.e they connect the hip, and top of the thigh to a tendon in your knee that connects to your calf.

In a squat the Hamstrings act as stabilizing muscles and fire eccentrically on the descending phase phase of the squat. They fire minimally on the ascending phase of the squat as the quadriceps are used in the bulk of this movement.

What the video says is true. Squats and by extension deadlifts are very poor exercises to train the Hamstrings. If you want to train your Hamstrings effectively then lying knee curls are the most efficient way (moving your feet towards your butt).

There is a good argument for eccentric training of muscles, but if you're looking for strength and hypertrophy then it's better to train by using the muscle for its intended purpose, knee flection.

That’s true when going from deep squat the first third from ground up is predominantly adductor Magnus.and that’s why deep squats leads to more muscle growth all in all but going deep or not has nothing to do with hamies best if they studied the relative growth of magnus and glutes (which also get more hypertrophy from deeper squats)

I've always argued squats aren't for hammys.

Never understood why people would think that.

You wanna work your hammys? Do some leg curls.

They say squats don't train hamstrings at all, but every time I get done doing squats, my hamstrings are stiff as hell

Indian squats train hamstrings though. "Baithok" This is due to squatting on the balls of your feet. It engages the hamstrings and calves more significantly than a regular squat.

I always feel hamstring and calves in squats but i dont do real squats. More like a bouncy motion a little above 90 degrees. Works the legs way better for me.

It’s not the same as bench and biceps, as biceps are not powerful flexors of the shoulder (or horizontal adductors) like hamstrings are powerful hip extensors.

Is important question what type of sqats they are? Normal, intensiv knee over toes, butt squats (opposite to knee over toes) and do they paid attention to how the test subjects exercise? It's matters.

Does the conventional deadlift activate hamstrings to any meaningful extent?

Maybe with a low bar, power lifting style squat, that resembles a good morning much more, you could get proper ham activation.

Low bar squats seem to do the trick for me.
