I've taught math for over 20 years. This is humbling. This guy was born to teach. You can't teach a person to control a classroom and maintain interest like this. He's got a gift.

a lot of internal psychological problems can be fixed by external lifestyle alterations.

- create a routine to add structure to your life instead of drifting aimlessly
- sleep right with consistent sleep/wake times
- eat enough and decently
- exercise 3+ times a week
- get 15+ mins sunlight on your face in the AM each day it's out for better sleep and vitamin D production
- meditate to build self awareness and concentration
- work in a way that you can enjoy or at least gain a good level freedom from
- balance work and play/rest
- minimise drug/alcohol use
- give your mind good shit to play with through interesting / inspirational / useful
information intake
- minimise time spent with overly negative people offline and online, spend time with people you connect with and enjoy
- follow interests, grow skills / capabilities

Jordan Peterson says a human being needs these six things in their life, and if you're not operating reasonably well on at least three of these dimensions, there's no way you're going to be psychologically thriving:

1. Some friends.
2. An intimate relationship with someone you can trust, that maybe has a future.
3. A schedule and a routine. It will stabilize your nervous system.
4. A career - Something productive to do with your time.
5. To regulate your use of drugs and alcohol. Most particularly alcohol, because that does in a lot of people.
6. A family (parents, children, etc) that is more or less happy and gets along.

To support that, these are the things he says you need to figure out (i.e. this is the kind of person you need to become):

1. Make a career plan.
2. Figure out how to negotiate.
3. Figure out how to say what you mean.
4. Figure out how to tell the truth.
5. Figure out how to listen, to your partner in particular.

At least he recognizes how much lifestyle and diet can affect mood 😊 A lot of psychologists don't seem to go there at all.

1. Make a career plan
2. Figure out how to negotiate.
3. Figure out how to say what you need.
4. Figure out how to tell the truth to people.
5. Figure out how to listen to your partner because they will tell you what they need.

Two brains are better than one, and that ties into negotiation as well.

A lot of value in this video.

I've really disliked school most of my life. I cheated my way through highschool, took a jab at college and quit after a year. Luckily my interest in computers has given me enough skill to land a job that pays well, so I don't entirely regret my younger, stupider life.... But I have to say, I ENVY anybody who get's to sit in Jordan Peterson's class on a weekly basis. I would gladly pay for a semester of just his class.

And I agree we all need a routine. Any time I have considered improving my life it has involved a more solid routine that removes things I know are harmful and including practices I know are beneficial.

Jordan Peterson's success shows me one thing for certain.
It is not just that the man is brilliant, it is because there are no fathers anymore.

In my experience, as someone who didn't learn this early on and one who's mind feels like a bouncy ball that's stuck in a room bouncing everywhere- I grew up w my thoughts been everywhere & yet nowhere at once. Every day my energy levels were almost always depleted before I could get out of bed. I used to believe a routine would trap me in a monotonous life but then I learned to put one on practice. One that wouldn't feel entrapping or lifeless. Its helped w my energy expenditure, things don't feel taxing anymore. I leave my worries behind knowing I don't have to think about what I did or didn't do. my mind is focused on forward mode when I leave home. Routines don't have to be depressing like in the movies, they are practical and can help keep you level headed.
