Hello Connie. I've been downsizing for about 10 months. I'm 65 yrs old. I live in a 1 bdrm house. It's been emotionally difficult, especially in the beginning. I'm happy to say it's a lot easier. I told myself "I've enjoyed these things, now someone else can" I decided to give away my stuff. My goal is for my sons to be able to clean out my house in one load, in case I move to nursing home or leave this world 🙌🏼 I enjoyed your video. Thank you bunches 🤗

I'm having to downsize from a 2 bedroom apartment to a 1 bedroom. I'm 60 and the cost of living has just gotten too high for me to stay in my beautiful 2 bedroom apt. I'm really having a hard time "letting go." Thank you for doing this video. Tomorrow I'm going to start with the bathroom because I'm not emotionally attached with the items in there. One box at a time. 💕

I love her calm, slower, softer voice. Easy to listen to her. And I LOVE her saying honor where you're at!! This is my new go to channel!

Lying in a bed at MD Anderson Cancer Center (❤ bless them!! ❤), I had a chance to think about things. My piano and my books, especially. I realized none of them are that important. I'm going to leave this body and not even my beautiful, beloved piano goes with me.

It was very liberating. We need very few things. Truly. All that really matters is our relationships.

I have kept my great grandmothers coffee grinder (one of the few items left from when they emigrated to Australia from the Netherlands) and we still use it everyday :)

I really like your question ‘Does this add value?’ I’ve always been puzzled by the Marie Kondo ‘spark joy’ approach. I have many things I need and use on a daily basis that don’t exactly spark joy, such as my spatula or hair dryer. 😄 Questioning if it’s adding value is a much better question.

I ask myself, if I am moving will I take it with me? This is very helpful for me to declutter. Giving to my favorite charity helps too

I discovered while decluttering that I did not even know how much of each thing I actually owned. I gave away two irons as I no longer iron my clothes only to open a different cupboard the next day and yes you guessed it there was another iron. I made myself give that iron away as well although I struggled with that, even though I don't iron. I cannot understand my own need to keep things 'just in case.''

Best video ever...soft calm voice....not yelling at me....no crazy background music/noise...content makes sense and is very helpful. I could listen to this type of voice all day talking about anything.

Enjoy Ms. Riet's approach to decluttering. Here's a tip I use: when I am struggling to justify getting rid of something, I tell myself that if I donate it, it might go to someone who would really enjoy and/or need it more than I do.

Great advice love how calming your voice is too 😊 Theoretically if clutter attracts clutter and stuff atracts more stuff than why regret donating when ultimately it leads to less and less stuff and less money spent. Its a win, win to declutter. My experience is the less i own, the less i want to buy and the more mindful i become.

I really enjoyed your video.
I never even considered being a minimalist until recently. My family, my mother, and my adult children are all moving out of state together. It has been extremely difficult and expensive taking trips across country and back. Last month I had to drive five hours away just to rent a 24ft cargo trailer. They’re hard to find in California with so many people leaving. By the time I had returned the trailer it had cost $6, 000 including fuel. I seriously question whether the contents were even worth half that much? I easily had another trailer full to go.
I started sticking things out in front of my house and watched them disappear. I felt a relief when they were gone. These were things I no longer have to move. There are things that are irreplaceable and sentimental that I will keep but this has certainly changed the way I think and feel about all the stuff I thought I needed to hold onto.

Thank you so much Connie. Just what I needed to hear. What REALLY helps me to pass some of my things along, that I actually still like, but honestly no longer use is to find the right place to donate them so they will be honored there. A local organization for woman and men (boys and girls) being trafficked in my area get my clothes, shoes and other items. I want them to have nice things not worn out hand me downs. I am so much more able to give things away when I know they will have a new purpose AND hopefully bring some joy to someone instead is just sitting around my house.

I've been enjoying all your videos. I have already adopted a minimalist life style but it helps to see and hear other people doing it as well. You've become part of my "tribe".

thanks for this Connie. I'm having so much trouble decluttering, and this is helpful. This is partly because I still have a lot of my parent's things, after they passed some years ago, and I find it difficult to discard them or give them away. And also, with my own stuff, its the 'I might need it sometime' mentality that gets me. So, if I dont need it in my current life, I'm going to move it on. And I know my parents would hate me to clutter my life with their things that I don't use or need.

Connie, I just found your channel. I love your sweet kind voice and your method of thinking about decluttering. I am 72 and I really need to declutter.I have been on this journey since I retired but am at a stall and had hit the wall with taking care of my house and because I was helping my brother and sister. With the break in the weather I am hoping for renewed energy with going through my clothes again. I have lost 60 lbs with in the last two and a half years and have donated the clothes I can fit to our animal shelter store. I must go look for some smaller tops for summer. I can’t afford to buy new tops. I have jeans I bought at a thrift store and love them. Thank you for this inspiration. I am now subscribed to your channel.

When deciding to eliminate an item, I tell myself it is going to a person who will use and appreciate it. It helps!

Also, I view St. Vincent's Thrift shop as my closet: I send clothes there that I am not wearing. If I need that item again, I go to my "closet" and find it again. Of course, that rarely happens.
