I find it hard to believe that they offer a base model with 12GB of RAM, not when they could offer 8GB and screw the consumer for the cost to go with 16GB.

The regular Mac mini is apple's most underrated and middle-class friendly product. Good to hear it will get 4 Thunderbolt 4 ports.

Watching this on a base M1 Mini. Although I am still very happy with the M1, I will definitely "upgrade " to the base M4 model...after all, I've had my Mini for 4 years at this point. If the pricing structure remains the same, I may even spring for a "Pro/Max" Unit. Apple Silicon has certainly proved itself a real winner.

I'd love to see two USBC ports on the front. They don't have to run at Thunderbolt speeds, but for easy connection of thumb drives, etc.

The fact that there’s still 6gb ram chips is depressing, since it nearly assures the M4 Pro will be 18gb stock and not the 24gb that it should be for the insane price. The standard should be 16 and 24 for the pro. Likely saving that for M5. Now if standard storage isn’t doubled there should be a boycott and protest. The starting prices and up-charge for more storage is beyond egregious. Almost as egregious as using the user’s screen as a marketing ploy with the literary useless, dated, asinine notch.
It’s SO easy for Apple to be better, but Apple gonna Apple.
No one NEEDS a 25% gain in cpu or graphics. What they need is some decency and respectable storage and ram for their hard-earned money. It’s ridiculous.

Watching this on a base m1 air. Basically it's not shut down since I bought it at launch except for updates. I'm gonna keep this bad boy until it's supported and then change for a base mac mini, while transforming the air to a linux powered fallback option.

I use a base model M1 Mac Mini and I use a lot of google docs tabs and web based apps for work, around 20 open all the time + other apps such as Skype. I have never had ram issues.

Decent upgrade if it comes with 12GB at $699. I wonder if Apple will switch to LPCAMM2 with LPDDR6 for the M5 gen models of all desktops.

12Gb RAN is not enough. It is common RAM used by the GPU as well.

16Gb is minimum.

In regards to design change, that’s the one Mac that I honestly hope they never change, the mini design is simple and literally does not need it, it would only cause frustration to all the mounts and server racks etc that are designed for that mini size and shape, and I believe Apple knows this and has no plans to change it for the sake of change

That could be an interesting upgrade/replacement for my Mac Studio. I only went with the Studio at the time because I want more memory than the Mac mini could handle at the time.
