The current power cable is fine. It's NOT A CHARGING CABLE that needs to be removed to take the out and use it elsewhere like a phone or tablet. Also, it's a standard cable that if lost or damaged can be easily found everywhere for a few dollars.

That power cable change would be a massive downgrade. One of the best things about the Mac mini is the built in power supply and not needing an external power brick.

I hope you are wrong on change #8. If a laptop or monitor comes unplugged it’s no big deal. If your desktop gets unplugged it can be a disaster. That somewhat tight insert and removal on the existing power cable is a feature, not a bug.

As an M1 Mac Mini owner since Spring, 2022, I can tell you that a size reduction isn't necessary. My Mini needs room along the side for more USB-C/Thunderbolt ports, in addition to the ports it already has. I would expect that making the unit smaller would result in less room for ports.

Someone on Facebook also pointed out to me: "Less cooling too. The current Mac Mini was designed for Intel CPUs, so has more effective headroom. It would be nice if that were kept as future CPUs will only have more heat to get rid of."

the crappy power cable is ubiquitous and can be purchased pretty much anywhere for next to nothing and most people will have a spare in the house somewhere.

Ice to hear about the changes but I beg to differ with some of No Tech's enthusiasm for all things Apple. Taking away the standard IEC C7/C8 would a dumb and pointless move. Only somebody in America living practically inside an Apple Store would think repkaco g it with MagSafe or another proprietary connector. In the rest of world, real life people don't constantly plug and unplug their Mac minis. They usually live out their sedentary lives on a desk.

Max: hard disagree on the proprietary magnetic charging cable. It's not very 'premium' when you lose or damage the cable and need to find a way to power up when you're not near an Apple Store, but it's SUPER 'PREMIUM" to be able to yank the industry-standard power cord from your Apple TV, Xbox, etc. and be back up and running.

It would be nice if they put a wireless charging coil in it so you could wirelessly charge your phone on it. Seems like it wouldn’t cost much and would be pretty convenient for users.
