I remember Clarkson decades ago complaining about the poor interior quality of American cars. Looks like nothings changed.

That interior is genuinely shocking. Aesthetics and quality. It would upset me every time I got in it.. still as others have said maybe it’s JUST the engine you buy

Every time I go to the US I rent one, they’re great fun. However, if you had one in the UK, even your best mates would rightly call you a knobhead! 😂

The Mustang is a lot cheaper here in America than in Europe (probably thanks to the big tariffs on imported cars from America). Here, you could get the fastback with the V-8 like you mentioned for just under $43, 000, which comes out to roughly £33, 000. If you wanted the smaller, more ecotax-friendly four-cylinder twin turbo, you could get it for £24, 500 after exchange rate. To put that into perspective, that's a rear-wheel drive, two-door sporty car with over 300 horsepower for £4, 000 less than a new Focus hatchback and even slightly less than the new Vauxhall Astra's lowest-priced model. You can tell the money went into the engine, chassis, and styling instead of the interior.

The interior has never bothered me on a Mustang, it does the job, the looks, the power, the noise, I’ve been out in a few, I was grinning like idiot the whole time, we need to cherish these cars before they gone

Don't forget the US gallon is smaller than our gallon. Add 20/25% to covert for our figures. So 13 US mpg is 16/17 for us. Still pathetic but they pay half what we do for petrol.

I never get tired of listening to my 69 Camaro, not a computer generated exhaust note to be heard anywhere

I went for a ride in a red Ford Mustang back in 1984 that belonged to one of my neighbours. She had a Mustang and her partner at the time had a Chevrolet which my Mum went in. I'm feeling very old as I type this remembering that way back in 1984 I was 8!!!

Good honest review, but if I wanted a V8 coupe, I’d go for a Lexus LC500.

I burst out laughing when you mentioned it’s the quintessential tourist car in LA, as that was the very reason why I rented one to do the Pacific Coast Highway!

It was the previous model, obviously, and my suitcase wouldn’t fit through the boot opening. Whenever we were moving on, the roof would have to be dropped and the case lifted into the back seat.

I have a 2017 5.0GT and I think that the interior of mine looks much better

You are buying the coyote 5.0 litre engine. The rest is just thrown in for free.

Great engine. Shocking car. Honestly, you wouldn’t want to be see in one

I just think an XKR or XK will give you the same performance, sound but with better feel and finish for a fraction of the price. It's a shame because I love the design of most American muscle cars but even at second hand prices I still think there are European muscle car options that just give you that bit more value over here. I'd imagine the inverse is true in the states - the imported euro muscle isn't a great deal compared to local mustangs and camaros

Don't forget the US gallon is 80% of a UK gallon. My new Hyundai Tucson 1.6T is doing 15.6mpg around Marple

I hired a convertible Mustang in 2018 in Florida, probably an Eco version, and it was not too bad, but when I switched to Sport Mode it became much better with acceleration and ride, but I still prefer the 67 289 fastback or the 71 Mach 1 351

As a 2020 Mustang Bullet owner, i love my Mustang, just turned 22k with no issues, servicing not expensive, fuel consumption ranges from 15 town to 30 on a run at steady 70mph. Had to replace the rear tyres twice now, they are expensive as is insurance, but it's a keeper, the Bullet seems to hold it's value extremely well. I use a Kia Ceed eco dynamics as a daily driver.

As a former multiple Mustang GT owner, the interior is cheap, yes, but the engine and drivetrain are bullet proof when maintained properly. With that being said, I would not own anything newer than newer than a 2020. Funny you made the comment of a 1998 GT. I owned a 98 cobra coupe. Loved it. The live axel meant you had to know how to drive it. Nothing against your driving ability.

Every single time I sit in any American car I think the same about the interior, having said that as soon as my foot stamps the fun pedal the smile widens
