The 5.4 had more problems then the 3.5. I have a 13 with the 5.0 it has 337k on the original engine and transmission but still runs strong. It was driven alot on the highway before I got it.

Have a 2011 XLT w the 5.0. 160 thousand miles and never had any mechanical problems. Oil was changed regularly and immediately taken in for any type of recall it had so its been well taken care of. Amazing truck with an amazing motor

Thanks I’m getting a 2013 within the next week or 2 hopefully. Definitely didn’t want a V6 or 5.4 V8. I’m getting a 5.0 4x4, wish me luck!

5:30 You are absolutely right. This happened to my truck, but after installing cool leds and cleaning the headliner, the problem disappeared.

Although the Ecoboost is a great engine for towing and sports if you're into tuning, the maintenance is a deal breaker for me, rather just buy a basic 5.0 without having to wrench on it every few weeks. Also Ecoboost owners have more oil changes to do because turbos run through new oil very fast.

Mine has been low maintenance 2013 eco with 117k on it. Coolant line running to the reservoir is the o-ring in it leaking not the complete hose. Mine runs great and I get 18 to 20 mpg depending on how I drive. It’s a very fun enjoyable truck.

I have a 5.4 8v 2010 at 160k miles and so far I've had no issues whatsoever, tire gauge sensor fault is often shown on the dash, but usually corrects itself after turning on and off, that's about the only issue I had with this truck

I am the original owner of a 2009 F150 FX4 S/crew with the 5.4 3v. It still runs like a top and hasn’t even had a warning light come on in the dash in all that time, a lot of which was spent towing an 8000 pound trailer. (I did have had to change one exhaust manifold in 2018.)Proper engine maintenance since day one is the key as far as I’m concerned, when they say 2009 may be one of the best F150 model years ever made I’m inclined to agree based on my experience.

my 3.7 v6 had a leak from the coolant reservoir quick connect. Instead of replacing the whole coolant hose assembly, you can get a kit to splice in a larger hose that replaces quick connects with regular worm gear hose clamps. Can't remember the name of the company I got it from, but I haven't had a problem since.

My 2014 has 299k miles. Runs like new. I’ve only had to replace two O2 sensors. It has the 3.7.

F-150 3.5 V6 XL 150k miles haven’t had any problems. Should really look into this details if I wanna keep driving a super fun truck.

The five liter Coyote in the later models, has four valves, double over head gear driven cams, and, is the best engine for all around use. I have a 2014, and, i get between 20-23 mpg on the highway with moderate speeds. It has plenty of power and is very reliable. But, I did have to replace the water pump at 70k, something that I do find unusual.

Purchased a used 2013 F-150 5.0L (1st Gen Coyote V8) STX 4x4 SuperCab in 2021.
It was a truck that original owner drove in Pittsburg area of Pennsylvania ( Code for Excessive Road Salt)

I've done a number of the items on your list already:
1) Replaced leaking Oil pan gasket (Definitely a poor part design)
2) Replaced Coolant Reservoir assembly and lines that started to leak coolant (Definitely a poor part design)
3) Cleaned headliner from previous 3rd brake light leak (Terrible design)

Next Items
4) Blower blend actuator door is next
5) Replace Inner Door Seal
6) Rust in Driver's side rear door sill, Rust on rear wheel arches

One that you didn't mention, but is ALSO VERY COMMON

Oil Pressure Sending Unit controller ....its down in the bottom of the engine block .
Gives the fake oil pressure warning alert....it was a great day when I replaced this.

I SPECIFICALLY avoided the 3.5L EcoBoost, as I heard MANY horror stories about driving through puddles and the trucks shutting down.

2009 With a 5.4L and 303, 000mi (490, 000km) and still strong. Cam phasers are still original and quiet.

The best engine for this era was the 3.7 non turbo V6 with the 3:73 diffs. Absolutely Zero issues and is their most rock solid reliable, simple lightweight powerful motor. Over 300hp, 20mpg, tows 6900lbs. Most people never got a chance to test drive one cuz they pushed the turbo motors so hard. Im much happier with mine after owning a 2.7 w/ 10r80
