This morning, I did three sets of twenty and two sets of fifteen. I had my hands on the floor and my toes on the seat of a chair. I will be 75 in April. You're never too old.

67 year old pushup junkie here- the form used in these video clips with flared elbows is a guaranteed injury- keep elbows closer to body. If you want strength the slow down the tempo of the reps and be sure to make the eccentric (going down to ground) at least twice the speed as concentric (moving body away from ground). After establishing your baseline of pushup fitness get a weighted vest for body weight exercises. Personally I like the cross fit "Cindy" 10 pull-ups, 20 pushups, 30 air squats x 10 sets or the "Murph" same as Cindy but starts with 1 mile run, pull-push-squat then 1 mile run. Also, you can target upper pec and delta by leaning forward, i.e. hands closer to hips, but be ware that you must change hand placement with thumbs pointing forward- its a progression I'm using to get to a planche pushup. Final thought- form is everything!! The range of scapular movement should include protraction and retraction... I see lots of people doing pushups with a several inch range of motion which looks more like a rapid body bounce than a pushup. The "count" is way less important than proper form. Try a couple with good form and you will find that pushups are not so easy!

Im 66 yo and have been doing 200 pushups a day in sets of 50 since 1980, I’ve never suffered an associated injury and I’m as strong now as I was when I was 30 yo

68yrs, started with 25 from the knees twice daily at start of the year. (also, sit ups and planks) now 4 months on, I'm at 110 twice daily (never missed a single day) haven't felt this good for years! Since starting back in January I've now joined a gym and started cardio and weights (something I never thought I do at my age) it's amazing what small consistent steps can lead to. I wonder what the numbers will be by the end of the year? Never to late to start. 😊

Finally!!! Someone who knows the science and how to apply it! Im a retired teacher and coach who was Not a "football is all " guy. My University Of Tex at El Paso degree promoted this science based info and application in the 70s. I have been reading and practicing these principals till now. Im 73 yrs now and still interested and actively engaged in self care. Thanks for being one the few who actually know WTF you are speaking about. Great JOB Brother. Gary R. Amarillo Tx.

I do push-ups every day. I usually do 600 to 700 push-ups every day, including the various push-ups. And I succeeded in setting the record 1, 650 to 1, 700 times in a regular position for an hour! Push-ups are good physical exercises if you do it steadily~^^🙏👍

On December 24, 2021, I almost died by falling hard and couldn't walk but crawling. Went to the hospital to recover and went to rehabilitation near Fort Sam Houston Texas to get my strength 💪. Left rehabilitation in February and went home. Had a physical therapist came to my house for exercises. After this, I performed 100 bed situps and 100 wheelchair ♿ push-ups for six months. After this, I have a routine daily dumbbells Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Now, I performed 25 sink squats, 25 sink push-ups, 25 bed situps. I rotate every exercise to gain weight. Now, I weigh 190 lbs and 6'1.

Take care! I got well into press-ups back in my 30’s/40’s. I used to get up in the morning, put the kettle on, and launch into it. I got to 60 in 45 seconds. I wanted to push it to 70 in a minute, so one morning I really went for it. Big mistake! Nearly 30 years later my shoulder is still vulnerable. I used to try a few press-ups occasionally, see how it goes, but it was way too painful. Shame. Must have torn stuff quite badly.
Just want to advise the “young” that they’re not indestructible, and one small mistake can have lasting consequences. Most important to ease yourself in, and warm up those muscles and ligaments.

During the COVID-19 lockdowns all I had was an EZ curl bar and a jump rope. Gyms were closed. 90% of my workouts were nothing but pushups. I started doing high rep routines of 30 down and I did different variations. 3 times a week of pushups and jump rope kept me in shape. Now you definitely need pullups for your back. That's non-negotiable but pushups done with proper form can do wonders for your chest, shoulders and triceps. Pushups are probably the best compound bodyweight exercise.

After 200... there is diminishing return... more overuse injuries insignificantly less gains.... when you reach TOTAL volume of 100 Push ups in MULTIPLE SETS in a single session, you will see amazing endurance and muscle definition....Your strength will also increase.... push ups are AMAZING especially when your strength and gains stop... you will definitely reach another level between 100 and 200
