The 420mg recommendation is for elemental Magnesium, many magnesium supplements do not have the RDA in them, I was taking a 470mg mag supplement and after some research, I discovered it only had 50mg of elemental magnesium which explained the constant fatigue I was feeling, I'm a guy who works out a lot and the lack of the correct dosage had a terrible effect on my performance and health because it had been going on years, so now I buy magnesium citrate powder and no it does not give you diarrhea at the correct dose, so now no more fatigue, in fact, I feel great.

The studies criticizing magnesium oxide infer that peeing more magnesium would mean better absorption, but this isn't necessarily true.

The body tightly regulates blood magnesium levels, i.e., if they they rise too quickly the kidneys will excrete the excess to maintain electrolyte balance. This means that the alleged more bioavailable forms are just quickly being eliminated.

What really matters is how much magnesium actually reaches your tissue, in which case the slow absorption of magnesium oxide would be greatly favored since less being peed out means more retention.

There's also the fact that the percentage of elemental magnesium is considerably higher amongst magnesium oxide supplements (not to mention the price).

Thank you so much, Siim! 👏🏻👏🏻 This video is wonderful, except that I would suggest also please discussing magnesium toxicity; i.e. at what point do levels of magnesium become toxic to cells, the resulting potential consequences, and how to properly supplement in order to eliminate and/or mitigate these risks. Lastly, maybe also mentioning common medications that interact poorly with magnesium or are rendered less effective by magnesium; such as thyroid hormone, which should be taken a few hours apart from magnesium rich foods or supplements. Other than that, this is really fantastic content as always! I am a very grateful subscriber commenting from Los Angeles. All the best to you! 💕👍🏻😃

Hempseed have about 200 mg and the serving size is 3 tablespoons. You can throw them in eggs or protien shake

I just ordered some magnesium glycinate. I take doctor prescribed medication for anxiety, but it just has not been doing it lately. I do already eat a lot of magnesium rich food daily, but just maybe I need more. We’ll see..

Excellent informational video thank you. slight query regarding mag and types glycinate oxide citrate etc most videos i see say glycinate best but trying to find which food product has the highest mag glycinate in it is very hard . i would like to combine food with mag glycinate supplements. Say a bag of assorted seeds/nuts had glycinate and citrate in it, would i get more of the latter? in it. Then i guess the same applies to leafy veg. Guess i should just ask what is the breakdown of high magnesium foods is . We are advised that 1 is better than most but which foods are best for glycinate only (ish)

Magnesium gives me depression after 3-4 days.
btw. Glycinate should not be in the top forms... It gives insomnia, restlessness and other crazy side effects to many people. It was one of the worst supplements I've tried (and it's my "hobby" to experiment with supps 😅 )

How important is maintenance of a calcium:magnesium ratio of 1.7-2.8 : 1? I want to add a magnesium supplement to my diet because I eat a lot of phosphorus, but it would lower my Ca:Mg ratio to ~1.5 : 1
