What happened in past Texas storms that shut down power plants?

It's clear that they didn't do enough. In 2011, there were 26 generators that went offline but also went offline in 1989.

In case you didn't know what 'investigative reporting' is. THIS is rare. It use to be how news reporting was done.
Excellent job by the reporter.

Not a "D" or "R" problem folks. This is power companies, politicians and regulatory agencies rolling the dice in the hope that nothing too bad would happen. The world is changing, get heads out of the sand and prepare, prepare, prepare. Be your own "reliability council" because no one else can love your family better than you do.

I can see that the snow or ice is melting. If a new cold front comes in, that will mean that that wet roadways will be like driving on black ice, and that is when the roads are most deadly! People need to keep this in mind because when the wet highways freeze that's when the black ice is there! Driving on those roads could be most deadly at that time!

The first Regulator interviewed needs to add one more "EVER" when he says "We need to be sure we don't EVER EVER EVER go through this again." One more should do it.

Privatize profit, socialize losses. Part of that equation is under-funding maintenance on infrastructure and technological innovation, because those are costs that inhibit profit. Instead, wait for mismanagement to create a public crisis that causes government to pump money in for maintenance and technology, then viola, you're more profitable and can get to privatizing that again.

It's called supply & demand! Shut a power plant down, less supply- more demand= higher price. Now caught with the hand in the cookie jar!!!

Youtube, Mike Morales. For the understanding of the weather and how their are playing with the jetstreams and spraying planes and the elements of nanoparticules in the snow.

Homes in Texas need to be better insulated with fiberglass insulation. People need to remember that insulation works both ways because in the summertime when they run their air-conditioners the insulation helps to keep the cool cold air inside of their house. In the wintertime, it repels against cold air getting inside of the homes making it easier to keep the inside of your home warmer during the winter months! If they don't better insulate these buildings they can suffer the consequences of it!

They never should have shut down North Lake Power Plant. It could have provided enough power to prevent most of the outages in the Dallas area.

Why haven't they put jet heaters inside the wind mills to start thawing them out ? Something very fishy is going on here. I don't know what it is, but i can feel it.

Who are these state regulators? FIRE THEM! I remember weather so cold in the 1950s, where trees were solid ice. My home was on blocks and no pipes burst with just dripping faucets. I don't feel that confident now!

Texas governor and legislatures need to get rid of ERCOT as a electrical power operator in Texas. The people of Texas will make sure of that. 😡😤

When you give corporations total freedom, they will always do as little as they have to. You need robust laws to force businesses to do the right thing by their customers!
