I'd always heard the Texas constitution allows us to secede from the union. So, one day I sat down and read it. Nothing like that in the constitution that I could find.

The economic argument falls apart when you consider the number of companies that would pack up and leave for the United States. And that's not even including all the things run by the federal government that would shut down, like NASA. So much of the economy south of Houston is tied up in NASA and NASA contractors that the whole area would plummet into a Depression. The economic issue is *so much more complicated* than just the amount of tax money flowing to and from the state.

I'm from Texas, and attended a constitutional law class in a Texas university, we covered all this as you reported. However, I believe 90% of Texans believe it can split into 5 states and secede.

The problem with the economy argument is that simply looking at ins and outs isn't sufficient. For starters, Texas receives a TON of federal support through the military-industrial complex.
