What Really Went On In Texas

Last week, Texas’s power grid completely collapsed in the face of a winter storm that caused subzero temperatures throughout the state. Republican politicians have responded by going on conservative media and blaming frozen wind turbines for the crisis — while saying this is why a Green New Deal would be more disastrous than the status quo. But what’s really going on? AJ+ host Dena Takruri explains how the current crisis in Texas was actually decades in the making — and how greedy energy companies are to blame.

“This massive failure happened because of greed, profits by all means necessary” Imagine driving your car for times on end without maintaining it, eventually it will break down and fail.

Texas politicians:
"This is our fault."
"QUICK, BLAME THE WINDMILLS!"

Wait wait wait...it only costed El Paso, TX four million dollars to winterize the electric grid to disaster at bay? That is practically nothing relative to their 980 million dollar city budget!

I live in Texas and I am heartbroken and embarrassed by this whole situation..No one should have lost their life and had to suffer..I feel the president needs to step in and help those of us who are getting railroaded by these power companies..

I love how Texans continue to vote for the same republicans who have a lack of empathy or care for them in such a difficult time. Literally called it "socialism" and saying that Texans wanted "handouts" just for their families who were in need and suffered during the storm.

... When I lived in Texas, I noticed that the houses seemed quite flimsy and uninsulated.

I know exactly what happened at Texas. I work in a power plant. They were warned to install heat tracing at their gas plants and gas supply infastructure and they didn't do it. About 50-100k per plant. And about 2.5 million o bathe (Rosemount) transmitters on their gas lines. I know what I know.

It's obvious what happened...When you live in the Southern US...relatively warm all-year weather lets you get away with a lot that you just can't further North. In the North, it is BOTH 95+ degrees in Summer and very cold (single digits or below zero) and very Snowy in the Winter. This is reflected in how homes, power station, and general infrastructure is built. I'm sure many in the North are saying I feel your pain...but also...welcome to my world.

America can't change gun laws to protect children, what hope do they have in changing laws to protect regular people.

Wind turbines are equipped with winter weather packages such as heating elements to keep ice off the blades and insulated gearboxes, allowing them to work at temperatures as cold as 22 below zero

Thank God for me having a Fireplace. I could have went to my mother's house(which did not lose power, over 20 minutes away) but the roads were bad. I was without electricity for 3 days. I am still without water at this point.

I can't imagine a world where I could possibly hate the federal government enough to potentially risk the lives of my children.

Decentralization is the way forward. The fact that the lights were on full time in Austin points to a hit job.

I think it's interesting how they claim to be the best at everything, yet they blame something that doesn't exist for the problems they're having... I s'pose, any excuse is better than none... :\

The most progressive thing about Gregg Abbot is the fact that he's in a wheelchair
Maybe we should ask the wheelchair its opinion about energy policy
