In my last video I talked about how the United States stole Texas from Mexico, but here's a quick recap: Mexico started selling land to American settlers, who then rebelled and gained Texas its independence, which was soon annexed by the United states.

Anyways, how did the US gain the rest of this land from Mexico? Well, the then president of the United states, James J Polk, was obsessed with gaining California from Mexico, so he sent Mexico a $20 million offer to purchase the land. They declined this offer, so he hatched a pretty shady plan.

He sent American soldiers into this disputed region in Texas, who were then shot at and captured by the Mexican army. He used this event as a rallying cry for the United States congress to declare war against Mexico. The United States, being the more powerful of the two, easily won this war. They paid Mexico 15 million dollars, and they reluctantly gave up all of this land to the United States. In a meter of less than 20 years, Mexico lost more than half of its territory to the United States.

Think of it this way. Mexico had a 1000 dollar product and the US offered 200 bucks for it. Mexico denied the request and the US pulled out a gun and stole the product and left 150 bucks on its way out.

theres literally a state called new mexico. texas was originally tejas, and the US still has a bunch of spanish names like san antonio, las vegas, san jose and san diego.

You left the part where Americans were illegally extracting gold from California and paid Mexico with their own money. Lewis and Clark went on their expedition out west in 1806 and reported the findings. Mexico did not sell land to American settlers, but gave land grants that local authorities then sold illegally to the settlers. The settlers had tobecome catholic and give up slavery, but plantation owners made their money through slavery so they refused and offered to pay taxes to the American government in exchange for help against the Mexican government. One to never turn down money, the US government accepted. The incident at the Alamo was actually wanted American fugitives acting on behalf of the American government undercover (much like contractors do today). They locked up innocent American civilians and set the place on fire, then blamed it on the Mexican army and used that incident to declare war on Mexico. The US just likes to embellish and romanticize its history.

The version we Mexicans have is somewhat different, the U.S. government sent soldiers to the border, but some of them were told to kill their comrades when they got there, then they "found" them and declared war on us because they were killed by Mexican soldiers, but in reality they were killed by U.S. soldiers inside the United States.
