RANT: 'GET A REAL JOB' MY RESPONSE...

People say YouTube isn't a real job, or that Twitch isn't a real job, or that being a full-time Content Creator isn't real work. A lot of people can't or don't want to work a 9-5 job and they shouldn't be invalidated for that in a world where 9-5 jobs went away for a lot of people.

In today's YouTube RANT video, I address the "Get a Real Job" comment, talk about the future of work, the value of Content Creators and Creative Entrepreneurs, Gig Work, and why having a 9-5 Job isn't all it's cracked up to be, and how a lot of people don't get the opportunity to even have a "real job" even if the wanted one and were displaced in 2020 because they found out (painfully) that there is no such thing as job security, and that in many cases your best option for stability is multiple streams of income, self-employment, entrepreneurship or even embracing the FI/RE movement (financial independence retire early). Oh, and a "real job" is anything the IRS decides to make you pay taxes on...

Since we went full time, I've been told many times to get a real job and stop 'mooching' off people who just want to watch videos. It's truly amazing to me how people think that content will just magically appear without money changing hands. Do they think TV and movies are done for free? Sports? Money is what makes things like the entertainment industry run. Cut the flow and it dies out because people need income to survive. So, as you said, our 'job' is just as real as any other, but probably more meaningful and impactful.

I had a 9-5 job at one of the best universities in the country (not gonna mention names) and my department laid off 7 people including my position, because we had the least seniority. And then when you add random pandemics in the most, no job is “secure”. While a 9-5 job is def important for most people (steady pay, health care, benefits, career path), people also need to realize that a 9-5 isn't “secure”. I agree that a 9-5 should be a means to an end, and everyone should simultaneously try to build a side hustle or busines, so they can gain independence from the things that make a 9-5 desirable. Great video, more rants are welcomed hahaha

I deal with multiple physical illnesses and work so hard on my channel. This is a career for me because I can’t do manual labor, and I also want to express my passions.

Glad some people can find their 9-5 in this economy, for me as a college student dealing with health issues it’s much more difficult for me. YouTube is my lifeline and I love doing it. I’m not going to work at McDonald’s and resign myself to the only jobs available to college students at the moment.

Your response was perfect! I like working alone and hate having to share a workspace with others, which usually includes listening to gossip, office politics, etc. I think it all boils down to people wanting to control others and wanting them to live the same way everyone else does.

As a respiratory therapist i can definitely understand what you say about working in a toxic environment and on a second note getting a job in the “ real world” usually involve you working to make someone else rich so why not create on YouTube and be your own boss with content that you control.

Dave Ramsey: "Don't be like every body else, don't be normal, normal is broke... be weird!!"

9-5 jobs aren't real... 9-9 is more realistic and most people have to live a life away from their families. If they get sick they lose money. If they want to take time away they are scrutinized. They become beholden to that job.
Content Creator: works own hours. Potential multiple income revenues. Love the job. Want to take a day off... want a vacation... need a mental health day... time with family when it counts... build your own brand not somebody else's... and the list goes on an on.

Little joke here at the end...
Guy tells Roberto to get a real job, meanwhile Roberto considers himself retired and is planning his millionaire status speech. Ok guy I'll get right on that after I get done being successful.
