Florida 11-year-old arrested after texting 911 to report fake kidnapping

The girl reportedly texted 911 to say her friend had been abducted by an armed man. It was all made up, deputies said.

To anyone thinking that this is cruel, I have first hand experience extremely similar when I was younger. I shoplifted when I was 6. My stepfather told me he was going to bring me to the police station and he did. It scared the s*** out of me at the time, tears in my eyes, but you know what... It seriously made me a better kid. As a society we need to stop sheltering our kids so much, and we need to subject them to some healthy negative stress, especially when they do things that could have serious consequences later in life.

Kinda deserves it. Somewhere out there there's actually a kidnapped victim that needs help, and meanwhile the cops are forced to investigate false alarms instead. It'll teach people not to make fake reports in the future so thats a plus.

I accidentally called police as a young kid but as soon as someone had picked up i panicked and hung up the phone. A cop surprisingly still made a stop at our house but everything was okay and they left after letting me know not to do it again. I can’t imagine calling them as a kid and reporting a false kidnapping. That’s just horrible parenting and in my opinion does deserve more punishment than simply dialing 911 and hanging up.

The company I work for a long time ago sent out a corporate wide email training on how to dial US numbers because we had to press "9" before calling out and people mistakenly thought they had to press "9-1" then dial "1" then area code and the 7 digit number. We had a high number of inadvertent 911 calls.
