Thanks for the tip about group cruises I always wondered how to know

I've been on cruises as long as 24 days (I have a job) and we missed a couple of ports once because of bad weather in the North Atlantic. Princess gave everyone a refund, and it was enough to pay for one of bookings on a 12 day cruise out of Singapore the next year.

Food and destination are two of the main reasons why people might go those are serious trespasses

I don’t understand how you find if your cruise is a group cruise. Tried googling multiple ways but none gave that info.

They claim tips is an extra for the crew members when in reality it’s to subsidize their payroll. And yes you keep saying John from carnival who’s paid by carnival says that’s not true, but every attendant and serve I spoke to in confidence says this isn’t true

In 2009, I lost four ports (all of Mexico) to H1N1.😢

A few more sneaky things: cabin theft is very high and happens on every cruise; crime can happen on the ship but will almost always happen in ports. It is possible to be pickpocketed, robbed, maybe even at gunpoint in some of the more shady ports. There are a number of fees that get added during a cruise, they really nickel and dime you (examples usually include drinks you thought were included, laundry, and so on). Balconies are a waste of money: you are going to spend 99% of your time out and about; and if you do spend time on a balcony there is a good chance your view is blocked by rails, lifeboats, or filled with noise and smoke from your next door neighbor.

Just got off a transatlantic cruise and while in port at La Harve, France I noticed practically everything not food related was closed. Upon further investigation I found out it was accenssion day. It wasnt a big deal as i wasn't looking for anything in particular, but it was disappointed.

All the hidden up charges. Such as bottled water is extra and the adult sun deck section as well as the Beverage packages and specialty restaurants and ice cream shops and even the wifi.. The end price or total price is never the real price on cruise ships and Honestly I wouldn’t recommend…

I prefer staying at an all inclusive resort where the price is the price PERIOD and you don’t fight for a chair on the sun deck and the drinks and food are included!!!

Group cruises. I get it. But you feel like an outsider.

I understand you can bring one bottle of alcohol ( wine) & can bring gallons of bottle water ( with a limit of course- don't wanna go to the bar or the buffet just to get some esp for medicine or just thirst). I suppose theres a page that tells you these things for the cruise liner?

My friend just got back from an Alaskan cruise and he said he had to go to the doctor which cost him $300 and he also had to go to the spa for a problem and that cost him $300. Now he didn't pay for Wi-Fi so he ended up with no outside link. But he didn't think he needed that for $300.
The drink passes I'm not worth it unless you're a real alcoholic

Thank You for sharing this info. I've cruised twice now and had no idea about either of these issues. It's absolutely ridiculous they wouldn't offer an explanation for passing by a port ❗wow, terrible

How they don’t actually disperse tips and use it to fatten their wallets as staff is paid based on contract including a gratuity amount that’s set in writing.
Also how they register ships where labor laws are awful so they can have their way with staff.

large groups on cruises are extremely annoying. They take up so much space.

That they book the entire ship behind your back, to a private group, then lower the boom on you a couple of weeks prior.
Since cruise lines love doing this, put aside a specific ship, for chartering, ONLY! Pulling the plug on a cruise that is fully booked with passengers, is a bait and switch. They may have foreign registry, but they operate out of U.S. ports, therefore they should be held accountable, or lose all ability to dock in this country!

The port skipping is very annoying, and it happens ALOT. Be prepared to miss at least 1 port on a 7 day sailing and possibly more than 1. Sometimes it's weather, but sometimes they don't really give a reason.
