Crohn's disease vs ulcerative colitis nursing review of the symptoms, treatment, diet, and pathophysiology for NCLEX. In this video, you will see an ulcerative colitis vs Crohn's disease chart/table that explains the similarities and differences between these two types of IBD (inflammatory bowel diseases). In addition, I will give you two Crohn's disease vs ulcerative colitis mnemonics to help you differentiate between Crohn's complications and ulcerative colitis signs and symptoms.

Crohn's and ulcerative colitis are two types of inflammatory bowel diseases that cause inflammation and ulcers formation in the GI tract. Crohn's disease affects the whole bowel lining to the serosa. While ulcerative colitis (uc) affects the inner lining of the GI lining (the mucosa and submucosa).

Both diseases increase a person's risk of developing colon cancer. Complications associated with Crohn's disease are: abscesses, fistulas, malnourishment, fissures, and strictures/bowel obstruction. Complications associated with ulcerative colitis include: toxic megacolon, rupturing of the bowel which leads to peritonitis.

I was suffering from UC for years. Was finally diagnosed last year, doctors gave me expensive steroids and antibiotics it was the same if not worse. I quit eating sugar and drinking alcohol, started exercising everyday while drinking lots of water and I haven’t felt this good in a long time. Hope this helps someone.

I take my final for my nursing program in 2 days. I have to say, I would not have made it as far as I have without you. You are am amazing teacher. I hope you are teaching somewhere because people definitely benefit from you. You actually take your time to explain these processes in a way that we can understand them and you do not just regurgitate information. You are amazing, THANK YOU!!

Thank you so much. I’ve had Crohns since I was 7& I’m 36 now. I had my colon removed in 2003& have an ileostomy. In 2006 my rectum was removed. I wish I had your channel when I was in nursing school (before YouTube ) in 2005 to review for my NCLEX. You break everything down very well I’m gonna tell the guy I’m dating to watch it to help him understand better TY ❤️🤗

Hey Nurse RN. Thank you for all your advice. I’ve had Crohn’s about 5 years and I’ve also had 6inches of my intestines removed. Your advice has helped me avoid my worse nightmare of having a Stoma bag. Thank you from the bottom of my heart lady!!
