Ulcerative colitis had taken a physical and emotional toll on David's health, limiting his ability to live a full life. Medical care from the team at NYU Langone’s Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center helped manage his symptoms for a time, but David and his team of medical and surgical experts eventually chose a more permanent surgical option to treat his condition. I had the procedure done in 1990 as an 18 year old after spending 3 years battling it. That disease put me through hell and nearly killed me, the surgery turned my life around, been pain free for 33 years.

Dr. Remzi is the BEST! I’m so glad he is at NYU. He has saved my son’s life. So happy to see you are doing better! And congratulations on your pup!

I was diagnosed in 2020. My symptoms started in 2019 and I had no clue why I had severe joint pain (from my neck to my toes). Very painful 😢 Weight loss. I was 163 pds and went down to 124 pds within 6 months before getting diagnosed. Thankfully, I started regaining weight within the following year. I also had heavy rectal bleeding. It didn’t just happen with stools. I had the urge to go a lot, but I noticed that sometimes I didn’t release any stool and it would be a toilet full of blood. I had severe chronic fatigue, hair loss and tender skin due to the flare ups (I didn’t know I had UC at this time) I am now on 2 medications and I give myself a shot (Humira pen) every other week. Unfortunately, I still suffer from my flares throughout the years and I’m soooo tired of this 😩 I’m also scared to get surgery smh. I’m so at a lost. Fortunately, I figured out a few triggers and that lessened my flares, thanking God!!!! Prayers to all that is suffering from this life long disease. I pray for us suffering that they will find a cure soon 🙏🏽❤️

I got dx with UC when I was 6 and they said I would need to be rid of my colon by age 21 (it has always been severe). I was able to have 2 children. However, while pregnant with my last baby I had another severe episode and that meant no more kids. I’m 35 now and I’ve been through about all of the biologics, prednisone, etc. and I’m ready to let it go. But still doing research and praying before I come to any conclusion. Thanks for the info.

Hi, I was diagnosed with severe UC back in 2019 and struggled for years. A few years later I started juicing celery and cucumber every morning to heal my gut, and it’s made a huge difference. Each morning, I juice half a cucumber with 2-3 stalks of celery and drink a glass for breakfast. I’ve also cut down on fried foods and completely stopped drinking carbonated drinks.

UC is terrible and it’s crazy how not many people know about it

I also have UC and I recently started a new therapy which is working like a miracle. It's called 'Vedolizumab' and it started with two infusions 2 weeks apart...now it's been 6 weeks since the second infusion and now I'm giving myself an injection every two weeks. The ready-to-go Injection-pens are easy to use and don't hurt at all.
I've been taking Mesalazin since 2004 but it stopped really working for me a year ago.
I'm so glad my doctor found something that actually works for me.

I need help, I'm in the worse flare in two decades, was on Humira and it stopped working and now on Stelara and it appears to not be working at all...I'm about ready to just put a bullet in my head I'm so miserable. Will be calling the Dr yet again in the morning. I've been on short term disability with work but have to go back tomorrow and I have no idea how I'm going to function in my job. If anyone can add anything that could help I'd be appreciative.

I've had UC for over ten years.. Hadn't been for God I would not be here to tell about it. UC has almost killed me several times over. Been in the hospital so many times I've lost count. I was out on entyvio around four years ago and that worked better than anything they had put me on. I am currently in a pretty bad flare bcz I had to go off entyvio in Aug for lack of transportation smhs. I am now leaning towards surgery. Tired of being sick, and extremely weak. You cannot possibly hydrate fast enough...😢😢😢

I was an Air Force Firefighter. I got diagnosed 2 months before I was honorably discharged. Come to find it was from the PFAC's in the AFFF Fire foam we used. The disease will grind you to dust. It's an awful illness.
