Oh, yes, they have selective memory. If I had a dime for each time I heard "That never happened, " or "you always make things up, " etc., I would be rich. Instead, he took my money and then denied it and told everyone he supported me. Yes, they always have to be right.

The Narc manipulates the victim to the point that the victim blames themselves for the abuse they received.
The journey for recovery is to re-write the past and correct the lies and manipulations of the narcissist. It’s hard work but once it’s done you will be “ bulletproof “. 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

The smear campaign was mind blowing. The good thing is my narc ex went after people who KNOW me inside and out and they all looked at HIM like he had lost his mind. His attempt to strip me of my best friends UTTERLY FAILED as his lies only caused them to rally the wagons around ME faster and harder.

Did I lose some so-called friends? Yep, but I discovered that those folks needed to go because they were either grabbing popcorn or believing the lies. The people who meant everything to me held fast and saw the ridiculous lies the ex was telling and just rolled their eyes.

The smear campaign actually helped me to cleanse my space of fake and dangerous folks. Life has been great since learning how to spot the flying monkeys.

My ex husband projected his narcissism onto me when rewriting the truth. He even went so far as to go on a podcast with a life coach who escaped a narcissistic relationship herself and tell stories of our relationship but flip the narrative where he was the victim. He got called out for his lies by people who knew us both, and she realized he was gaslighting her. I never defended myself - there was no need. People realize who was the narcissist and who was the true victim. Two years and a divorce later my kids and I are so much better off.

Hindsight is truly 20/20. I used to beat myself up for not seeing the red flags in the beginning of the relationship. But forgiving myself first, thinking of the time I wasted, had to take place before I could move forward. Thanks, Andrew, and all others here in this community ❤

It is clear that explaining, defending, justifying or trying to "get on the same page" with a narc is just another form of "self-abuse". DO NOT PARTICIPATE. Manipulation at it's worst. I am sharing my experience, strength and hope. I do not seek to just "AGREE" but to instigate deeper thinking and self-searching in all of us. I have embraced my 74 years on this planet, looking at my life as a whole, just like everyone else. We are not alone. This is a life and what has been profoundly given to each of every present past and future human. No we had no options by being born, no choices of whom we would be cared for, no means to what would be presented to us. We are not alone.
I have been educated by Andrew and a few other's on what and how and how much abuse there is in this world. Showered with narc's all my life and still the devaluation has affected 13 people in my family, right down to all cousins, grand nieces and nephews. It has taken 7 years to completely eliminate me, had to go no contact 3 times, mother and two brothers.
Hard to believe everyday. I am happy cozy warm and safe. Doesnt bother me anymore, just amazing. Andrew is like my daily bread. My holidays are red and green. Lights on for my friends.
