Joker 1/2 take place in the mid 80s, Dark Knight takes place in 2008. For this inmate to be Heath Ledger’s Joker and for Harry Lawtey’s Dent to be Aaron Eckhart’s, the inmate and Dent would have to be young kids/teens for the timeline to make sense at all. Plus, we already see Dark Knight’s and Joker’s versions of young Bruce, young Alfred, Thomas and Martha Wayne, Wayne Manor, and they all look nothing alike. The shooting of the Wayne’s aren’t even similar scenarios at all. People act like ‘oh, two Joker’s cut their mouths open, they HAVE to be the same one!!! THAT’S what’ll make this stupid movie worthy of its own existence!!!’

Just because you don't understand the ending doesn't mean that it's awful. Yeesh. The whole movie is about a battle between Arthur Fleck and his "shadow" The Joker. In the end, The Joker wins and kills Arthur Fleck.

I think people have lost all ability to understand subtext and subtlety. Do we really have to beat audiences over the head?

The issue with Joker was that it appealed to a mass audience, but it really was an art house film. Joker 2 is also an art house film, unfortunately not everyone is going to get it. As a film connoisseur, I'm ok with that. Not everything is for everyone. Calling it stupid is just ignorant. Just say you didn't like it.
