Is walking painful because of arthritis? You’re missing THIS

Ask yourself…

As a physical therapist one of the hardest activities can actually be walking if you have arthritis but it’s also one of the activities that’s most recommended by healthcare professionals, the internet, even family and friends…🤔

Walking requires a lot of repetition usually moving in one direction, forwards ⏩

It also requires you to have good range of motion in the knee and the hip ☝🏽

AND to be confident putting full weight on one leg 🦵🏽

If you have difficult with any of those things- walking can be difficult ☝🏽

BUT your joints are craving one thing. And that one thing is VARIETY ↔️↕️↖️↙️

As humans we spend so much time moving forward in life.

Think about the last time you’ve moved sideways or backwards 🤔 Has it been awhile?

Joint pain can be tied to muscle imbalances, tightness and weakness in the knees, hips and even in the feet. There are muscles in each of those joints responsible for moving you in different ways ☝🏽

If you don’t challenge those movements and those muscles- they can become weakened which can actually contribute to more joint pain 😔

Ask yourself one question- Did you move sideways or backwards today? (Safely of course ⚠️)

I agree with the idea. I do it at home going down and coming up the basement stairs when I go down to do the laundry! It feels silly but it works!
